Columbia Thrives with Festive Events and Community Spirit This December

Columbia Gears Up for an Exciting December!

What a wonderful time of the year it is once again in Columbia! As we wrap up November and dive into the holiday season, there’s so much happening in our charming city. From festive volunteer opportunities to art classes, and enchanting music events, Columbia is buzzing with activity that promises to keep your spirits high.

Giving Back with Stuff the Sleigh

If you’re looking to spread some cheer this holiday season, don’t miss out on the Stuff the Sleigh event on December 7, running from 4 to 7 p.m. at The Dales Biergarten and Bottle Shoppe, located at 3150 Platt Springs Road in West Columbia. This great initiative by Final Victory Animal Rescue aims to collect much-needed supplies for our furry friends! Bring along some pet food, toys, or blankets to fill that sleigh and make a difference!

Get Your Craft On

If you, or someone you know, has a creative side, check out the offerings at Alexandra’s Art Studio on Sparkleberry Crossing. With classes available for both adults and children, it’s a fantastic way to flex those artistic muscles while making something beautiful. Their upcoming classes are sure to inspire all age groups!

Art in the Great Outdoors

On Sunday, December 8, prepare for a delightful artistic adventure at the Historic Melrose Art in the Yard event! This outdoor festival spans several city blocks and showcases local artists. Bring your friends and family along for a day filled with creativity and inspiration from 1 to 5 p.m. Be sure to follow the event on social media for maps and more information.

Calling All Theater Lovers!

Do you know someone who loves to perform? The Midlands Light Opera Society is hosting auditions for their production of the classic musical Pirates of Penzance. If you’re interested in auditioning for a principal role, prepare a selection from a golden age musical and join them on December 2 at 6:30 p.m. No audition is necessary for chorus members, making it more accessible for everyone to join!

Get Ready for the Holidays

Nothing says the holidays like festive events, and Columbia is not skimping on this year’s lineup! Don’t forget about the prestigious Columbia Christmas Pageant taking place on December 14 and 15 at the First Baptist Church. Mark your calendars for an incredible holiday performance, sure to lift your spirits and inspire that holiday cheer.

Have a Blast at Holiday Events

December 7 is turning out to be quite the busy day in Columbia. The City of Columbia Parks and Recreation will be hosting their annual Holiday Ball at Leroy Moss Multipurpose Center at 5 p.m. An evening filled with fun, dancing, and holiday spirit awaits!

Crafting and Family Fun

In addition, the “Best Decorated” Gingerbread House Contest is coming up on December 12 at Earlewood Park. Get crafty within the 22” x 22” size constraint and unleash your culinary creativity to impress the judges!

More Festivities Around Town

Keep the festive spirit alive by attending the South Carolina Gingerbread House Competition on December 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at AIA Columbia. And, if you’re feeling lucky, grab your tickets for the St. Pat’s in Five Points, which runs on March 15!

Join the Community Events

For those wanting to give back, don’t miss the Harvest Hope Food Bank event on December 3, where you can help families in need during the holiday season. Together, we can tackle hunger right here in our community.

Let’s Dance!

For those who wish to let loose and express themselves through dance, join the Palmetto Scottish Country Dance every Monday from 6 to 7:45 p.m. It’s a lovely way to unwind and learn some new moves!

Columbia is radiating holiday joy with something for everyone. So pick a few events to enrich your December and share the holiday spirit with family, friends, and fellow Columbians. Have a magical December!
