Exciting Events for Columbians to Consider in 2024

ART

Alexandra’s Art Studio, located at 111 Sparkleberry Crossing Road, is an excellent hub for art lovers. They offer a variety of classes for adults and kids, as well as kids’ art camps. In partnership with One Columbia for Arts and Culture, the Columbia SC Visitors Center is hosting artist pop-ups throughout the weekends until July 28.

CHURCH/CHARITY

For families with school-age children, Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church will be hosting a Vacation Bible School in July. Activities are scheduled for Friday, July 12 from 5-7:30 p.m. and Saturday, July 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Check out Asburyumcola.org for more details.

CITY

In observance of Memorial Day, city buildings and offices were closed on Monday, May 27. However, all garbage and trash collection routes remained on their regular schedules.

SPORT/OUTDOORS

The athletic community of Columbia is not left out of the exciting happenings. The American Pickleball Tour (APT) is returning to the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center and will be held from Friday, July 19 to Sunday, July 21.

VETERANS

In partnership with Portraits for Portraits, ESNTL Headshots, a leading photography studio in Columbia is doing something great by providing free professional headshots for veterans transitioning from military to civilian life in search of new career opportunities. SUPPORT GROUPS

For those seeking emotional and mental support, groups like Promise of Serenity NAR-ANON are holding weekly meetings for families and friends of addicts. The group meets every Monday at 6 p.m. at the Anglican Church of the Epiphany. Visit www.naranon.org for more details.

SUMMER ENTERTAINMENT FOR KIDS

The Nick will host a Kids Summer Movies series starting June 11. This weekly program will offer movie viewings on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 10 a.m., offering a great entertainment option for kids.

OPEN HOUSE

The Mental Illness Recovery Center, Inc. (MIRCI), is excited to announce the grand opening of its new facilities at 2750 Laurel Street, Third Floor. The event is scheduled for Thursday, June 27, 5–7 p.m.
