A Month of Vibrant Activity Awaits Columbia Residents

This summer, Columbia, South Carolina, will serve as a bustling hub for countless community events, promising a kaleidoscope of experiences for its residents and visitors alike. From dance workshops to art exhibitions, outdoor adventures, and awareness initiatives, Columbia has something for everyone in the coming weeks.

A Feast for Art Lovers

Alexandra’s Art Studio, located at 111 Sparkleberry Crossing Road, opens its doors for adult classes, kids classes, kids camps, and art class groups. A noteworthy presentation is by One Columbia for Arts and Culture in collaboration with the Columbia SC Visitors Center, which will host artist pop-ups outside on weekends. Interested attendees can visit these outdoor galleries between 8 a.m.–7 p.m. on Saturdays, and 10 a.m.–4 p.m. on Sundays, at 1120 Lincoln Street throughout July.

Also, Shandon United Methodist Church will showcase an array of remarkable oil paintings by Ashley (Stone) Ozmint. These will be exhibited at the church’s Patricia Beckler Art Gallery, located at 3407 Devine Street, from June 3–August 30.

Making a Difference

In observance of National Gun Violence Awareness Month, the City of Columbia Office of Violent Crime Prevention will host a special garden rededication at Pacific Park, located at 200 Wayne Street, on Thursday, June 20 from 5:30–7:30 p.m. The goal: to raise awareness about and address this critical issue.

Spiritual and Charitable Gatherings

Several churches and organizations invite the community for various spiritual and uplifting activities. Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church is organizing a Vacation Bible School for children aged three to fifth grade. The activities commence on July 12 from 5–7:30 p.m. and will continue on the next day, July 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1005 Asbury Drive.

In another part of the city, Triumphant Praises Church International will be hosting Holy Church Consecration & Convocation Services from Thursday, June 20 until Saturday, June 22 at 1101 Lincoln Street.

Dance and Fitness

Those with a passion for dance, too, have plenty to look forward to, with Palmetto Scottish Country Dance classes available every Monday from 6–7:45 p.m. at the Eastminster Presbyterian Community Life Center.

Community Driven Initiatives

The Richland School District One is organizing a Summer Career Fair on Thursday, June 13 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at C.A. Johnson High School, 2219 Barhamville Road. The aim is to provide potential career opportunities for the upcoming batches.

Summer Camps and Outdoor Adventures

From June 10 through August 2, the City of Columbia Parks and Recreation Department will host a series of weekly summer camps for children. In addition, the recreation swim season for the City of Columbia’s outdoor pools and pads has already begun and will continue until Monday, September 2.

These events promise to make Columbia a lively and enriching hub for residents and visitors of all ages throughout the summer. With an appealing mix of leisure, learning, and participation on the cards, this season promises to leave indelible memories for all who partake in the city’s vibrant community spirit.
