Investigation Confirms: Five Dogs Abandoned for Two Weeks Without Care
Man Arrested for Animal Cruelty
A man from Lexington, South Carolina has been arrested and is facing charges after investigators found five dogs left in his care without food or water for approximately two weeks. Tragically, three of the dogs confined in the property were found deceased upon the arrival of the investigators from the Lexington County Animal Services.
Robert John Jachim, 40, was arrested on Tuesday. Investigators detailed an unbearable sight of neglected dogs in their report. Four of them were left in wire crates with two having already died from the mistreatment. Another small dog was found lifeless inside a bedroom. The South Carolina resident reportedly left his home on July 2nd and did not return until his apprehension.
The Aftermath of Cruelty
Two survivors of the unwarranted negligence were immediately removed from the property and taken to Pawmetto Lifeline, an animal shelter, for immediate care and nurturing. Brittany Jones, the Director of Animal Services, described the condition of the survivor dogs as “severely emaciated”. Having been starved to such an extent, the dogs refused to eat at all on the first day of their rescue. Now, they are being helped to walk again and are on a strict diet to gradually recover their strength.
In addition to the immediate intervention needed to stabilize the survivors, Pawmetto Lifeline will be providing long-term care to aid in their recovery process. Owing to the severity of this abuse case, Jachim was charged with five counts of ill-treatment of animals. He was taken to the Lexington County Detention Center and granted bail set at $5,000.

Having successfully concluded the investigation, the Lexington County Animal Services is proactively expanding its operations. They’re actively calling for more staff to join their team. This incident has surely highlighted the need for more vigilant monitoring and stricter actions against animal cruelty.
