South Carolina Man Tragically Succumbs to Injuries from Highway Crash Near Hagerstown, Maryland
Authorities Continue Investigation into the July I-81 Accident
It is with great sorrow to report that a South Carolina man, involved in a tragic motor vehicle collision that took place on Interstate 81 (I-81) near Hagerstown, Maryland in early July has passed away due to his injuries, as confirmed by a Maryland State Police spokesperson. Scott Cutting, 66, from Lexington, S.C., died towards the end of July, Maryland State Police spokesperson, Ngan Ho, conveyed.
The Fateful Afternoon on Highway
According to Ho, the police are still investigating the crash that took place on the southbound lanes of I-81 near Interstate 70 on an otherwise quiet Saturday afternoon. Cutting was driving his Ford Transit 2016 model south on the I-81. Responding to an inquiry about the crash, Ho shared in an email that the accident was reported around 3:40 in the afternoon on July 6.
Investigation thus far has led to the preliminary finding that an Acura MDX, 2009 model was heading southward on I-81 when it attempted to change lanes into the lane occupied by Scott Cutting’s Ford. This sudden lane change caused the Ford to be misdirected left into a concrete barrier wall and a support pier.
The impact was immediately severe, necessitating state police aviation to airlift Cutting to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. A passenger in Cutting’s van was also rushed to Meritus Medical Center located near Hagerstown. The passenger, however, has since been released, as per Ho.
Driver Cooperates with the Authorities
The driver of the Acura held his ground at the scene post-crash, cooperating fully with the authorities. The investigation is ongoing with the investigators piecing together the details of the unfortunate incident.
Our sympathies and thoughts are extended to the bereaved family and friends of the deceased. In this difficult time, we pause to remember Scott Cutting, a 66-year-old man from Lexington, South Carolina, who sadly lost his life following a truly tragic highway incident.
Motorway users are once again reminded of the importance of being alert and cautious at all times. Protecting our lives and the lives of others is a shared responsibility that we must not take lightly.
