Investigation Reveals Five Dogs Abandoned Without Supplies in Lexington House For Two Weeks
Lexington Tragedy
In a Lexington home, a shocking discovery was made by investigators on Tuesday. A local man was apprehended after it was revealed that he had left five dogs trapped inside his property for about two weeks, with no access to drinking water or food.
Tragically, amongst the left behind dogs, the bodies of three were found by officials from Lexington County Animal Services. The now-arrested man, identified as Robert John Jachim, aged 40, reportedly left his Corley Street house on July 2 and did not return.
The Cruel Scene
Jachim’s four dogs were found crammed inside wire cages by investigators, with only two showing signs of life. Two others in cages and one more inside a bedroom had succumbed to the severe conditions.
Happy to note, the two remaining canines that were discovered alive have been transferred to Pawmetto Lifeline for their further care and rehabilitation.
The Aftermath
At Pawmetto Lifeline, the dogs are currently receiving extra nutrients. Brittany Jones, the head of animal services, has stated the dogs, though severely emaciated, are showing signs of recovery.
The degree of starvation was so intense that the canines did not have the appetite to eat anything on the first day of their rescue. Currently, assisting aids are used to help them take short walks, and they follow a strict feeding schedule.
Legal Proceedings
The accused, Jachim is being charged with five counts of ill treatment of animals. He was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center and was granted bond at $5000.
Lexington County Animal Services, with several officers and investigators on duty, led the investigation, which was conducted by the department’s cruelty investigators. The agency is actively seeking additional staff to join their dedicated team to prevent such sorrowful incidents in the future.
