Lexington Man Arrested for Leaving Five Dogs Without Food or Water for Two Weeks, Three Found Dead

Tragedy in Lexington: Five Dogs Neglected For a Fortnight Without Food and Water

Suspected Case of Animal Neglect in Lexington

In an alarming incident in Lexington, a 40-year-old local man has been booked for leaving five dogs inside his residence without food and water for approximately two weeks. Three of these innocent lives couldn’t survive the harsh conditions and were found dead when the authorities intervened.

Lexington County Animal Services Steps In

Lexington County Animal Services, responding to the horrific case, arrested the property owner, Robert John Jachim, on Tuesday. He reportedly left his home on July 2 and didn’t return, leaving the dogs to fend for themselves.

Upon investigation, four dogs were discovered confined in wire crates. Tragically, two of these dogs were dead. Another small canine was found dead in a bedroom, further highlighting the severity of the neglect.

Two Surviving Dogs Receive Care

The two surviving dogs were immediately transferred to Pawmetto Lifeline for urgent care. Despite their severe emaciation, they are currently receiving the necessary nutrients and medical attention. Though initially too weak to eat, the dogs are on a strict eating schedule to help them regain their strength.

Understandably, the dogs are extremely weak, and the rescue shelter assisting Lexington County Animal Services has to help the dogs move around. As part of their long-term care program, Pawmetto Lifeline will take over their complete care and rehabilitation.

Charges and Implications

Jachim now faces five counts of ill treatment of animals and is currently detained at the Lexington County Detention Center. He was granted a $5,000 bond. If convicted, his actions underline the urgent need for social awareness about animal rights and caretaking responsibilities.

Active Law Enforcement for Animal Services

Lexington County Animal Services, having both officers and investigators, was instrumental in carrying out this investigation by their cruelty investigators. Yet, the episode underlines their need for additional personnel to efficiently ensure animal safety laws are upheld in the county. Prospective candidates enthusiastic about animal welfare are encouraged to join their team.
