Free Notary Public Seminar to be Offered in Lexington County this August
Residents of Lexington County, South Carolina are being offered a unique opportunity to attend a free, in-person notary public seminar this coming August. In an announcement made by the Secretary of State Mark Hammond, three such seminar are set to take place across the state, with Lexington County as one of the chosen locations.
Seminar Information
The seminars are expected to provide comprehensive knowledge on the roles and responsibilities of South Carolina notaries and also valuable insights for those who are interested in becoming a notary. Along with traditional notarization processes, attendees will also gain knowledge on electronic notarization.
Each seminar will initiate at 6 p.m., likely ending around 7:30 p.m. Attendee check-in begins at 5 p.m. The seminar allocated to Lexington County is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 5, 2024. It will be hosted by Midlands Technical College, Airport campus, specifically in room 116 at the Academic Center Auditorium, located at 1260 Lexington Dr.

Registration Details
According to the press release from Hammond’s office, potential attendees can register for any notary seminar that is convenient to them, with their choice of seminar location being irrespective of their county of residence. For those unable to attend in person, the South Carolina Notary Public Reference Manual and the Notary Webinar, available on the Secretary of State’s website, offers a practical alternative.
New Payment Option
Hammond’s press release also discussed a new online payment option for those seeking to become a notary public or renew their notary commission. This new addition would allow notary applicants to conveniently make payments online, avoiding the need for checks or money orders. The notary public application is available for download on the Secretary of State’s website. The application fee is $25.
Notary Public’s Role
Notaries in South Carolina act as public officials who serve as impartial witnesses and protect against fraud. Once commissioned, the notary is expected to maintain a level of training necessary to conduct their duties following the State law.
