LEXINGTON, S.C – A Batesburg resident, Jerry William Hall, Jr., has recently been apprehended by Lexington County deputies on charges of attempted murder, among other serious offenses. He stands accused of an attempted homicide attack on one individual and issuing a death threat to another.
Hall, 29, has been legally indicted with attempted murder, third-degree assault and battery, kidnapping, possession of a firearm or ammunition by an individual with certain criminal convictions, and possession of meth. Each of these charges has been validated by the issuing of an arrest warrant.
“Lexington County deputies were alerted and deployed to a house located on Bayonet Road last Thursday night. This action was a response to a 911 distress call from a neighbouring resident,” stated Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon. On reaching the location, the officers discovered the victim in a nearby wooded area, grievously assaulted.
According to Sheriff Koon, witness testimonies added a detailed narration to the near-fatal incident, which spanned over an extensive timeframe of nine hours. These testimonies mentioned that Hall repeatedly attacked the victim, who was at that time trapped inside the house. Whenever the victim attempted to break free, Hall would confine them back indoors.
Investigators have managed to piece together the gruesome sequence of events. It emerges that Hall not only punched and kicked the victim but also obstructed their breathing until the point they fell unconscious. His precise means of assault was even more horrifying, as he used his steel-toed boots to assail the victim. As per Sheriff Koon’s statement, Hall didn’t stop at this.
Upon the arrival of some witnesses at the house, he threatened them too with fatal consequences, thereby escalating the alarming scenario.
“By the time our deputies reached the crime scene, Hall had already abandoned the house,” informed Sheriff Koon. However, on the following day, the officers received a lead regarding Hall’s hideout located on the 100 block of Buggy Road. Acting promptly on this information, the deputies detained him.
Following his arrest, Hall was brought to the Lexington County Detention Center. At present, a magistrate judge has denied any possibility of granting him bond, thereby ordering his continued detention. The trial proceedings are expected to commence soon, bringing further developments to this gripping case.
The news of this traumatic incident has created a ripple effect across the local community, raising concerns about public safety. With the details of the charges becoming public, there has been a call for swift and strict justice to be served. We will continue to keep you updated regarding any developments in this unfortunate series of events.
