Lexington PD Seeks Public Assistance to Identify Big Time Best Buy Shoplifter

In the heart of Lexington, South Carolina, a significant theft incident has perturbed the local law enforcement. On May 7, 2024, an unknown suspect allegedly shoplifted a total of $6,469.79 worth of computer parts from a Best Buy outlet, prompting the local police to call for public aid in identifying the culprit.

The Incident

According to Detective Arrington from the Lexington Police Department, the shoplifter brazenly entered the Best Buy outlet located at 5135 Sunset Boulevard around mid-day. Displaying an unusual level of audacity, the suspect forced open a locked display cabinet, successfully bagging computer components without attracting immediate attention.

From the video footage secured from the store’s security cameras, it appears the suspect skillfully concealed the stolen items on his person before calmly exiting the store premises without making a purchase, thus triggering the suspicion of the store’s security staff. However, upon investigation, the loss incurred was substantial, amounting to more than six thousand dollars.

Lexington PD’s Appeal to the Public

With the store surveillance video showing only a definitive profile of the suspect, the Lexington Police Department is facing some difficulty in the immediate identification of the person. Hence, in an effort to expedite the case, the department has published still images of the suspect captured from the CCTV footage.

They are now appealing to the public to help in recognizing the suspect. Anyone with information regarding his identity can contact Detective Arrington at 803-358-1514 or via email at tarrington@lexsc.gov.

This case presents an opportunity for the public to aid in the identification and subsequent apprehension of a suspected criminal.

Incidents like these highlight the importance of citizens remaining vigilant, reporting suspicious activities, and aiding the police in their investigations. The Lexington Police Department extends its appreciation to those who can provide any assistance in this investigation and continues to stress its commitment to the safety and security of the community.
