Bob Morgan, the current president and chief executive officer of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, announced his resignation on Monday. Morgans held his position for three years, during which he made significant contributions to the organization.
Morgan will be succeeded by Mike Brenan who will serve as the interim president. The Chamber of Commerce, which primarily advocates for free enterprise and a pro-business agenda, assured that a thorough search for a permanent replacement will commence soon.
During his time as the president at the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, Morgan was instrumental in implementing several initiatives that strengthened the position of the Chamber and contributed to the prosperity of the business community. His work earned him accolades including the Humanitarian of the Year Award by the United Way of Midlands in 2021.
Morgan, upon his departure, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead a reputed organization like the Chamber. He also mentioned his eagerness to contribute further to the development of South Carolina.
“I’m humbled to have been given the opportunity to lead such a storied and important organization with the help of so many talented professionals, and I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together,” Morgan said. “Since moving to South Carolina, Meg and I have become passionate about the Palmetto State and I look forward to helping the state continue to grow and prosper.”
Interim President, Mike Brenan is an esteemed figure in South Carolina’s business community with several accomplishments under his belt. His experience and guidance are expected to be critical in the transitional phase.
“We’re fortunate to have an accomplished and respected leader like Mike Brenan offer his experience and guidance as we build on this momentum and search far and wide for the next president and CEO,” said the S.C. Chamber Board Chair.
While Morgan’s departure marks the end of a successful era for the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, the search for a new visionary leader to carry forward the legacy begins. Meanwhile, the Chamber remains committed to advancing the state’s business interests and facilitating the growth of the South Carolina economy.
