Lexington, S.C. — A car ended up in a ravine following a vehicular crash on Old Chapin Road near Waverly Court, resulting in brief lane closures and rerouting of traffic to Snelgrove Road.
The Lexington Police Department (LPD) confirmed the incident, reporting that the driver of the car, who was found to be at fault, was rushed to the hospital by the Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Further investigations led the authorities to issue citations to the driver for Reckless Driving and Unlawful Passing.
Lanes that were initially closed due to the accident were reopened after the crash site was cleared. The LPD also confirmed that the detour onto Snelgrove Road which caused minor traffic congestion is no longer in effect.
Speaking on the incident, a representative of LPD noted that nearly all collisions occurring in the town of Lexington are avoidable and urged drivers to be more alert. “99% of the collisions that happen in the Town of Lexington, SC are preventable and this is another good example of that. Drive alert and don’t take chances,” the representative noted in a public statement following the crash.
Members of the Lexington community have been reacting to news of the incident, expressing their concern over the continual instances of reckless driving. While the exact condition of the driver at fault remains undisclosed, locals are reminded to obey traffic laws and to drive safe. Failing to do so not only endangers the driver’s life but also those of others. Motorists are also advised to be aware of road signs and to keep an eye out for any official advisories related to traffic conditions.
