Car Mistakenly Turns onto Railroad Tracks, Collides with Train in Irmo

Irmo, SC – April 11, 2024 – Just after 8:00 a.m. this morning, a startling incident occurred in the Irmo area of Lexington County, when a driver attempting to turn from Saint Andrews Road onto Leisure Lane inadvertently turned onto the parallel railroad tracks instead. A train traveling down the tracks collided with the car from behind, pushing it along the tracks for about a quarter of a mile. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries to the driver or the train crew.
