Cayce Celebrates the Appointment of New Police Chief Herbert Blake

Cayce Welcomes New Police Chief Herbert Blake

Cayce, South Carolina, is buzzing with excitement as the city welcomes its new police chief, Herbert Blake. Just a week into his role, Chief Blake is already making his presence felt and has a full agenda aimed at strengthening community relations and ensuring public safety.

A Fresh Start and a Listening Ear

In a recent statement, Blake shared that he’s been “busy having a lot of meetings” and emphasized his eagerness to connect with the community. “When I’m done meeting with staff and community members, I’d like to have listening sessions in each district with each district councilman,” he mentioned. This approach underscores his commitment to understanding the unique concerns of residents throughout Cayce.

“Hearing from citizens in those communities is essential; it’s about knowing what they prioritize and figuring out how we can enhance safety and protection in our city as we move forward,” Blake added, revealing his community-centered philosophy.

Leading with Experience

Chief Blake brings a wealth of experience to his new role. A well-respected figure in law enforcement, he previously served as the Chief Deputy of the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office in Asheville, North Carolina. His lengthy career also includes a significant stint as the police chief of the Hendersonville Police Department, where he served for 13 years, as well as seven years in the same role at the Loris Police Department.

Having been born and raised in South Carolina and starting his career as a police officer in Ridgeland means that Blake has deep roots in the community he now serves. He holds a Master’s Degree in Management and a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration, along with several advanced leadership certifications.

Community Support and Expectations

Jim Crosland, Cayce’s Interim City Manager, expressed enthusiasm for Blake’s arrival. “We’re excited about our incoming Chief,” he said. Crosland acknowledged Blake’s extensive experience and established reputation in law enforcement, stating that his selection came as no surprise to the committee.

“We all felt that his professional outlook and dedication to policing were a perfect fit for Cayce. I look forward to seeing how he’ll lead our police department and serve our citizens,” Crosland noted, highlighting the shared hope for a positive impact in the community.

A Family Man at Heart

It’s also worth noting that Chief Blake isn’t just dedicated to his duty; he’s a family man too! He and his wife Linda have been married for an impressive 37 years and are the proud parents of five grown children and six grandchildren. This personal touch adds another layer to Blake’s commitment to community safety—he understands the importance of a secure and thriving city for families.

What’s Next for Cayce?

As Chief Blake continues to settle into his role, residents can expect to see him actively engaging with the community. His plans for listening sessions will offer a valuable platform for open dialogue, allowing residents to voice their concerns and ideas.

The weather in Cayce is looking quite pleasant too, with temperatures expected to reach a high of 79°F. However, early risers may encounter some patchy fog, and the day will remain mainly cloudy with a few sprinkles likely later. It seems like the perfect weather for community gatherings and meetings!

Overall, the future looks bright for Cayce under the leadership of Chief Herbert Blake. As he prioritizes communication and safety, both residents and law enforcement can work hand-in-hand for a safer, stronger community.
