CAYCE, S.C. – A disturbing incident at Cayce Elementary has led to the arrest of a staff member accused of assaulting a 9-year-old student with developmental needs. The incident, which took place on April 18th, has left the community in shock and the school administration taking swift action.
According to an arrest warrant issued by the Cayce Police Department, Carolyn Ann Glen, a 60-year-old bookkeeper at Cayce Elementary, was accused of forcefully grabbing the student, shoving him into a wall, and causing him to fall onto the floor. The warrant details how Glen allegedly grabbed the child by the shirt collar, lifted him, and forcefully shoved him against the wall once again. The student, who was in a state of distress, remained curled on the floor crying.
When students witnessed the altercation, they immediately sought help from a school resource officer who promptly responded to the scene in the third-grade hallway, where the incident occurred. Glen was subsequently taken into custody on April 19th and charged with assault and battery in the 2nd degree. She was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center.
Following Glen’s arrest, the school administration initiated an investigation in collaboration with district administrators and law enforcement. In an email addressed to parents and staff, it was announced that Carolyn Ann Glen had been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
