Cayce Residents on Alert After Theft at Local Wal-Mart

In the heart of Cayce, excitement turned to concern recently following a brazen theft at the local Wal-Mart on Sunset Boulevard. Shoppers out for a casual day of errands may want to keep a closer watch over their belongings after a man was captured on camera engaging in what can only be described as an unfortunate lapse in judgment.

What Happened

On August 18, 2024, a well-placed surveillance camera kept a close watch on a suspicious individual who seemed to have missed the memo about respecting other people’s property. Distracted by the hustle and bustle of shopping, a customer was unaware that their cell phone had become the target of this somewhat crafty thief.

As the footage reveals, the man, dressed in black shorts, sports shoes, and a white T-shirt, made his move. The camera kept track of him, providing a clear view of his actions. If you’ve ever wondered how relaxed one can be while committing a crime, this man demonstrated it perfectly, strolling through the aisles with the confidence of someone who clearly needs a lesson in personal boundaries.

A Closer Look at the Suspect

This individual can be recognized by his notable large forearm tattoo on his left arm, which stands out distinctly in the surveillance images. It’s good to keep an eye out for other distinctive features as well. He had a bald head paired with a goatee, and at the time of the theft, he was seen carrying what looked like a pair of glasses in his left hand. While it’s unclear whether those were sunglasses or his usual eyewear, they definitely add a unique touch to his appearance.

The suspect drove away in a white single cab GMC or Chevrolet pickup truck, characterized by its after-market rims and chrome bars on the sides of the tailgate. This detail may help identify him if you spot his vehicle around town in places like West Columbia, Boiling Springs, or even Lake Murray.

How You Can Help

If you’ve happened upon this description and happen to recognize him, your assistance could be invaluable. The Lexington Police Department is asking for anyone with information to step forward. Detective Tomaino can be reached directly by phone at 803-359-6260 or via email at mtomaino@lexsc.gov. For those who wish to remain anonymous, there is also the option to reach out to Midlands Crimestoppers, which can be done through their hotline at 1-888-CRIME-SC or their website.

And just a reminder—tipping off the authorities could potentially earn you a cash reward. Anything you can share might just make a difference in getting this individual the help he needs, or at the very least, prevent him from making more poor choices in our community.

A Call to the Community

As folks from our beloved Swansea, Pine Ridge, and the surrounding areas navigate their daily lives, it’s essential to stay vigilant and keep an eye on personal belongings while shopping. Community awareness plays a crucial role in creating a safer environment for everyone.

Let’s help support our local law enforcement and keep the spirit of Cayce alive by looking out for one another. After all, we’re all in this together!
