Earlier this week, the typically peaceful streets of Cayce, South Carolina, were stirred up when quick-thinking officers from the Cayce Police Department jumped into action to investigate a group of individuals riding all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) near the Riverland Park neighborhood. This particular area had seen some challenges lately, having been partially evacuated just last weekend due to flooding from **Hurricane Helene**.
It all began when a public safety officer noticed some suspicious activity and decided to reach out for backup. The radio call went out, and in a flash, officers from various divisions—Criminal Investigation, Patrol, and Administration—rushed to the scene. It’s reassuring to see how quickly our law enforcement can respond in these kinds of situations.
When the officers arrived, they quickly got to work, approaching the ATV riders for questioning. They carried out their investigation, checking the riders and their equipment. As they dug a little deeper, they encountered a bit of a surprise: one of the individuals in the group was connected to a stolen trailer!
That’s right, folks! The officers discovered that Russell Coffey, one of the ATV riders, had a stolen trailer attached to his pickup truck. Talk about an unexpected twist in a seemingly innocent ride through the park! Upon finding this evidence, the officers wasted no time in placing Coffey under arrest. He has since been formally charged with Possession of Stolen Property and has been released pending his upcoming court date.
This incident serves as a crucial reminder for all of us living in and around Cayce: if you see something suspicious, don’t hesitate to speak up! The Cayce Police encourage residents to remain vigilant. If you notice anything unusual or concerning, you can contact the police at their non-emergency number, (803) 794-0456. And for those in Lexington County and other surrounding areas, you can reach the authorities at (803) 785-2521. In emergencies or if you are faced with a life-threatening situation, always remember to dial 911.
It’s instances like these that really emphasize the importance of community and teamwork. The Cayce Police Department, along with our community members, plays a pivotal role in keeping our neighborhoods safe and secure. By staying alert and working together, we can help prevent crime and make our lovely city of Cayce an even better place to live.
The men and women in blue deserve our gratitude for their swift response and dedication to our safety. It’s reassuring to see how they quickly handled the situation and were able to bring a suspect into custody amid the backdrop of recent flooding challenges.
Let’s keep supporting one another and looking out for each other. Most importantly, don’t forget that your local law enforcement is just a phone call away. So whether you’re enjoying a day at Riverland Park or simply going about your daily routine, keep those eyes peeled and stay safe, Cayce!
