Having kicked off their season with a split in their opening weekend, the Mariners, currently holding a record of 1-1, are eager to hit their stride as they navigate through this tournament. Last weekend, the team faced a challenging doubleheader against ABAC. What an adventure it was! In the first game, the Mariners showed incredible resilience and determination, clinching a solid victory with a final score of 4-1. Freshman sensation McKenzie Collins played a pivotal role in that first game, going 2-for-4 at the plate and driving in two crucial runs with a picture-perfect double.
The second game brought a bit more drama as the Mariners fell short with a close score of 4-3. Here, another freshman, Brooke Perdue, shone brightly by going 2-for-3 and showing her speed on the bases, scoring two runs to keep the team in the fight. It’s clear that the future is looking bright with such talent emerging from this squad!
Making waves on the mound, sophomore Rylee Mills delivered a fantastic performance in the opener, pitching a complete game while only giving up one run on just six hits. Her dedication and skill earned her the title of Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week for her stellar efforts. With Rylee leading the way, the Mariners are just starting to heat up, which leaves fans buzzing with excitement for what’s to come in Columbia.
