COLA, SC – It feels like we’ve just stepped into a cozy little fairytale here in Columbia, especially as we embrace the lovely temperatures of faux fall. With the sun shining and a cheerful breeze playing in the air, there are heaps of fun events popping up all across the city! Even with the Gamecocks busy playing away, the local excitement hasn’t skipped a beat. So, grab your friends, family, or that special someone and dive into what Columbia has in store this week!

South Carolina State Fair

The South Carolina State Fair, running through the week, is definitely a must-visit. Each day, the fair opens its gates at noon and ushers in a world of fried food, thrilling rides, and fantastic entertainment! The theme this year is all about celebrating the 46 counties of South Carolina, which is a great way to appreciate the local gems! Enjoy the CIRCUS performances or plan your visit around one of the free concerts at 7 p.m. that’ll have you dancing like no one’s watching!

Halloween Festivities

As we transition into October, Halloween fun isn’t just a mere thought – it’s right around the corner! Check out Boo At The Zoo happening from 6-9 p.m. at the Riverbanks Zoo & Garden. It’s a perfect way for families to celebrate with trick-or-treating at the zoo amidst the playful wild side!

Also, don’t miss the spectacularly spooky HalloScream Laser Lights show at the South Carolina State Museum at 1:30 p.m. throughout the week! Guests of all ages can groove along to Halloween classics like “Thriller” and “Monster Mash” choreographed with dazzling laser displays. Tickets are quite reasonable at $13 for adults and $10 for kids!

It’s set to give you the spooky chills as you wander through 6 eerie buildings and tread the creepy corn field mazes. Tickets start at $30, with fast pass options available for those seeking to skip the lines.

Cultural Experiences

French Moderns: Monet to Matisse, 1850-1950. This exhibit features stunning artworks from some of history’s most renowned artists, offering a beautiful contrast to your Halloween festivities.

SC Pride Celebration

This week is also bursting with colorful and vibrant events as SC Pride ramps up! Come at 6 p.m. to the Nickelodeon Theatre for “Queens and Cowboys,” a heartwarming documentary about LGBTQ+ rodeo competitors. Later on, get ready to have a blast at the Rocky Horror Drag Show at New Brookland Tavern with performances at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.

If you fancy some art, swing by the Koger Center for the Arts from 5:30-7 p.m. for the Pride Art Exhibit. It’s a great opportunity to witness incredible pieces from local queer artists.
