Columbia Gears Up for a Magical Christmas Open House at the Governor’s Mansion

Columbia, S.C. – Are you feeling the holiday spirit yet? If not, you’re in for a treat! The Governor’s Mansion will be buzzing with festive cheer this coming Monday, December 9. Governor Henry McMaster and First Lady Peggy McMaster are throwing open the doors to their home from 5:30 to 7:30 PM, inviting all South Carolinians and their families to join in for a delightful Christmas Open House.

An Invitation to Celebrate

This free event promises to be a heartwarming occasion, perfect for families looking to immerse themselves in the joy of the season. Attendees will be welcomed by none other than Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus, who are sure to sprinkle a bit of their holiday magic as they greet guests. And that’s just the beginning! Get ready to clap your hands and tap your toes to the sounds of the season, as singers Trudy Wilson and Rhoda Paschal will provide enchanting musical entertainment, accompanied by the talented harpist Cayli Boyle.

Delicious Treats Await

No holiday gathering would be complete without some sweet treats, would it? The Governor’s Mansion will serve up light refreshments, featuring warm hot chocolate, cookies, and festive candy canes. It’s the perfect way to satisfy your sweet tooth while mingling with fellow holiday enthusiasts.

Give Back This Holiday Season

cat or dog food, litter, or toys to donate to the Pawmetto Lifeline. These thoughtful contributions will be collected right at the entrance, making it easy for everyone to give back to those furry friends in need.

Decking the Halls

The festive atmosphere this year is thanks to the hard work of the Columbia Garden Club, which has been decorating the Mansion for Christmas since 1981. They kicked off the holiday spirit this week, filling the space with stunning décor. You can look forward to beautiful Christmas trees from the Penland Christmas Tree Farm in York, S.C., and striking poinsettias from the Gilbert High School Future Farmers of America. Plus, stop by to admire a delightful gingerbread house replicating Charleston’s beloved Pineapple Fountain!

Did you know that the wreaths adorning the Mansion Complex are made and hung by the dedicated folks from the Horticulture Division of the South Carolina Department of Corrections? That’s some impressive teamwork spreading the Christmas cheer!

Guided Tours to Explore the Mansion

But the holiday fun doesn’t end on the 9th! The Mansion is also offering regular docent-guided Christmas tours on December 10, 11, 12, and 17 through 19. These tours will take place at 10:00, 10:30, and 11:00 AM and, like the Open House, are completely free of charge! Just remember that reservations are necessary. To book your spot, give them a call at 803-737-1710 or visit their website at scgovernorsmansion.org.
