Exciting News for Columbia Food Lovers!

Columbia, known for its vibrant dining scene, is buzzing with excitement these days! If you’ve driven by the bustling Harbison shopping district recently, you might have noticed some inviting banners hanging outside the former site of Yamato Japanese Steakhouse. That’s right! After the unexpected closure of Yamato, which had been a beloved spot in our community for almost five decades, there’s a new kid on the block: Sukiya Japanese Steakhouse is gearing up to make its grand entrance!

A Bit of History

Yamato closed its doors for the last time back in January, leaving many loyal patrons heartbroken. Having been a staple in Columbia for an incredible 49 years, this location on Columbiana Drive had welcomed countless families, friends, and sushi lovers since it opened in 2000. However, not all is lost! Yamato’s other location in beautiful Myrtle Beach is still thriving, so there’s hope for fans of their tasty dishes.

The Arrival of Sukiya

Now, as if by magic, the flames of the grill are set to return with Sukiya Japanese Steakhouse swooping in to take its place! Known for its delicious hibachi and sushi offerings, Sukiya isn’t a newcomer to the area, as many locals may be familiar with its other location at 5228 Sunset Blvd. in Lexington, found in a shopping center anchored by Lowes Foods. It seems that Columbia is about to welcome another beloved dining spot, making it an even more exciting culinary geography.

Where Will Sukiya Be?

Suki is set to open its doors at 360 Columbiana Drive, the exact spot where Yamato delighted diners for years. This location couldn’t be better situated! The Columbiana Drive and Harbison area is a key retail hub in the Midlands region, and it’s surrounded by major retailers such as Columbiana Centre mall, Target, Walmart, Sam’s Club, and Publix. Additionally, you’ll find a variety of restaurants nearby, including old favorites like Miyabi, Carrabba’s, Braza Do Sul, and Texas Roadhouse. This makes the area not only a shopping haven but also a foodie paradise!

What to Expect?

While an official opening date for Sukiya has yet to be announced, the buzz is definitely building! Many are eagerly awaiting the chance to fill their bellies with delicious hibachi and sushi. With its reputation for flavorful dishes, Sukiya is expected to quickly become a hotspot for both new and returning diners. And who can resist the mouthwatering experience of watching skilled chefs prepare dishes right in front of your eyes? It’s more than just a meal; it’s a deliciously fun experience!

Final Thoughts

If you’re a fan of Japanese cuisine, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for updates about Sukiya’s grand opening. It promises to add a fresh flavor to our beloved Columbia dining scene, reigniting the lively atmosphere we’ve been missing since Yamato’s departure. So, gather your friends and family, and get ready to explore the exciting offerings that Sukiya will have in store. The culinary adventure is about to get pretty thrilling!
