Columbia Families Get a Helping Hand This Holiday Season

Hey Columbia! It’s that magical time of year when holiday meals fill our tables with joy and warmth. As we gear up for turkey day, it’s important to remember that not every family has the means to gather their loved ones around a feast. Fortunately, our community is stepping up with several food giveaways designed to brighten the holidays for those in need. So, grab your calendar, and let’s dive into the upcoming events that can help make this season merry and bright!

Food Giveaways Coming Up

Here’s a rundown of the food giveaways happening in the Midlands area. Remember, these are first-come, first-served events, so it’s a good idea to arrive early if you can. Here’s what to look out for:

  • Tuesday, November 19: Head on over to the Richland County Recreation Commission (RCRC) for their Give Thanks Giveaway from 2 p.m. at the Garners Ferry Sports Complex located at 8620 Garners Ferry Rd., Hopkins.
  • Wednesday, November 20: Join the community for Bountiful Harvest with Serve & Connect. They will be handing out boxes of holiday groceries and frozen chicken at Icehouse Pavilion, downtown Lexington from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.. Plus, you can enjoy a catered meal from Hudson’s Smokehouse!
  • Thursday, November 21: It’s back again! The RCRC will be hosting another Give Thanks Giveaway at St. Andrews Park on 920 Beatty Rd. starting at 2 p.m..
  • Saturday, November 23: Don’t miss the RCRC’s final Give Thanks Giveaway of the week. Swing by the Crane Creek Gymnasium at 7405-B Fairfield Rd., Columbia for food distributions at 10 a.m..
  • Sunday, November 24: In collaboration with Molina Healthcare of South Carolina, there will be holiday food boxes and turkeys during their giveaway at Serve & Connect headquarters from 2 to 5 p.m.. Supplies are limited!
  • Monday, November 25: Come out to the Feed the Families Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway hosted by Victory Promotions and Palmetto Talent Agency. Mark your calendar for 6 to 8:30 p.m. at SPACE 803, located at 2732 Decker Blvd..
  • Tuesday, November 26: The Stanley Law Group and Toliver’s Mane Event will be giving away turkeys starting at 10 a.m. at 6102 North Main St. Hurry in, as supplies are limited to one turkey per vehicle!
  • Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 28: Lastly, don’t miss the Chappelle Memorial AME Church Community Outreach Dinner in honor of the late Edith General. Enjoy a walk-in or drive-through dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1101 Pine St.. What a wonderful way to celebrate the spirit of giving!
