Columbia Gears Up for a Heartwarming Holiday Celebration

Good morning, Columbia! As the holiday season approaches, there’s a delightful event just around the corner that promises to brighten the spirits of children and families facing tough times this Christmas. Mark your calendars for December 1 because Prisma Health Children’s Hospital is hosting their Good Night Lights event, and you won’t want to miss it!

What is the Good Night Lights Event?

Now, you might be wondering, “What’s Good Night Lights all about?” Well, it’s a beautiful initiative aimed at spreading joy and comfort to kids who are hospitalized during the holidays. It’s no secret that spending time in the hospital can be tough, especially for our little champs who would rather be at home engaged in holiday festivities. This event is a chance for the community to come together and send a little love to those in need.

According to Dr. Robin LaCroix, the medical director of Children’s Hospital in Greenville, “For children and families, especially, it can be tough to be hospitalized, but it’s even tougher over the holidays.” She emphasizes how meaningful these simple gestures can be in lifting the spirits of kids and their loved ones. It’s a reminder that they are not alone and that the community is rooting for them every step of the way.

Join In on the Fun

So, how can you get involved? It’s actually super easy! On December 1, community members are invited to gather outside the hospital, shine flashlights, or blink your car lights up at the children’s windows. This act of kindness creates a connection where little ones can respond by shining their flashlights back, creating an enchanting display of twinkling lights during the evening! And don’t forget, participants are encouraged to decorate their cars in festive cheer – the more colorful, the better!

Details You Need to Know

Here’s a quick rundown of the event details to help you plan:

  • Date: Sunday, December 1
  • Location: 7 Richland Medical Park Drive, Columbia, SC 29203
  • Time: Arrive by 4:30 p.m. to decorate your car
  • Parade Start: The Toy Drive Parade kicks off at 5:30 p.m.

As part of the festivities, they’ll also be hosting a Toy Drive Parade. Those wanting to participate in the parade need to RSVP ahead of time by dropping an email to Christine.Fink@PrismaHealth.org for further details.

Give Back and Spread Cheer

To make the evening even more special, attendees are asked to donate a new, unwrapped toy at the end of the parade route. If you’re looking for inspiration on what to give, don’t fret! Just check out the Midlands Wish List, which has plenty of great ideas to help you choose the perfect gift for a deserving child.

Stick Around for More Festivities

After the parade, don’t rush home just yet! Park over at the 9 Medical Park garage, then take a stroll over to the nearby campus green, where you can enjoy the First Responders Parade. It’s sure to be a lively and festive sight with flashing lights and sirens that will fill the air with excitement!
