Ah, Columbia! The air is brisk, and with the holiday season just around the corner, there’s a sense of excitement buzzing in the air. If you’re here in the capital city of South Carolina, you might have already begun to feel that festive spirit taking shape. With the weather bringing us lovely partly cloudy skies and a sweet high of 72°F today, it’s the perfect backdrop for our holiday preparations!
In a heartwarming kickoff to the festivities, Mayor Daniel Rickenmann along with representatives from the Babcock Center recently unveiled this year’s official city ornament. Drum roll, please… this year’s ornament depicts the charming **Arcade Building** located right in our downtown area! How cool is that?
This year marks the 32nd design in the city’s collector series, a lovely tradition that brings both locals and visitors together to commemorate our rich culture. Each ornament is stunningly crafted with 24-karat gold on brass, and comes neatly tucked away in a felt case, making it a delightful ornament to hang on your tree or gift to a loved one. You’ll be proud to showcase this beauty that tells a story of our community!
Now, you might be wondering how to snag one of these beauties, right? Each ornament is priced at $24, which goes directly towards supporting the Babcock Center Foundation. This remarkable foundation is a private, non-profit organization that lends its hand to over 800 individuals with lifelong disabilities in Richland and Lexington counties. When you purchase this ornament, you’re not just getting a sparkling piece of holiday cheer; you’re also contributing to a wonderful cause! That’s a win-win in our book!
You can pick up your ornament at the Babcock Center Foundation Office located at 2725 Banny Jones Avenue in West Columbia, or swing by the Columbia Visitor’s Center. If you prefer to shop from home (we totally understand!), you can order by phone at 803-799-1970 or conveniently order online at www.babcockcenter.org. How easy is that?
Now, let’s talk about the weather again, because after all, Columbia’s atmosphere plays a big part in how we enjoy this festive time. You may have noticed a hint of patchy fog early this morning. And while some clouds drift about, overall it’s a gorgeous day with just a light breeze coming in from the ENE at about 5 to 10 mph. As the sun sets, expect the skies to turn overcast, with temperatures cooling down to a comfy near 55°F tonight. Perfect weather to cozy up with a cup of cocoa as you hang your new ornament!
As the holiday season approaches, keep your eyes peeled for more festive updates in our lovely city! There’s bound to be plenty more events and happenings that celebrate not just the season, but also our wonderful community.
And that’s the news for today, folks! Keep spreading that holiday cheer, and let’s all come together to support those in our community who need us most. Whether you’re out and about or snuggled on the couch, we hope Columbia fills your heart with warmth and joy this season!
