Columbia, South Carolina: A Shocking Snake Surprise!

In a story that’s straight out of a movie, a resident of Columbia woke up Tuesday morning to an unexpected visitor in her bathroom— a large ball python hiding behind her toilet! This unexpected twist of her morning routine surely sent her heart racing as she stumbled upon the slithery surprise around 5 a.m.

Not Your Average Wake-Up Call

When the unidentified woman entered her bathroom, she was greeted not by the usual morning light but by the sight of the exotic snake. As you can imagine, her initial reaction was to scream and frantically call for help. It’s hard to blame her for the panic; who wouldn’t be startled to find a strikingly patterned snake lounging where most of us would expect to see only toilet rolls and cleaning supplies?

It wasn’t a plumbing tool or a mischievous pet; the ball python was a wild visitor. The Richland County Sheriff’s Department jumped into action after receiving the unexpected emergency call.

Heroic Deputies to the Rescue!

Deputies from the sheriff’s office, particularly Master Deputy Alexandra Salrin, rushed to the scene. She described the incident as “definitely a unique call for service for us.” In a rather humorous twist of fate for the deputies, they found themselves tasked with safely removing the snake that had caused a flood in the bathroom! How the python managed to flood the bathroom remains a mystery—but we can only speculate about the creature’s late-night adventures.

When the deputies arrived at Rice Terrace Apartments and Townhomes, they knew just what to do. With a quick and decisive approach, they successfully extracted the python and placed it into a pillowcase for safe transport. Talk about a creative solution!

What About the Snake?

Now, you might be wondering what happened to the snake after its unexpected escapade. The sheriff’s department decided that this was not a case of abandonment, as the snake appears to have been someone’s pet that had presumably escaped. Master Deputy Salrin noted there was speculation that the python had slipped away from its owner in the apartment complex. However, as of now, no one has come forward to claim it. This situation leaves a lot of questions unanswered!

Thankfully, in this situation, Master Deputy Huffman has experience with a variety of animals and was comfortable dealing with the snake,” Salrin mentioned. After ensuring the women’s safety and resolving the crisis, the deputies took the snake under their wing. One of the Operations deputies took it home, assuring that this slithering survivor wouldn’t be left to fend for itself.

Just Another Day at the Office?

It’s worth pointing out that while it’s not every day that deputies receive calls about exotic animals, they are trained to deal with all sorts of unexpected situations. Master Deputy Huffman, who has been with the sheriff’s department for nearly four years, showcased his skills in what could be described as a true test of coolness under pressure!

The rumor mill is buzzing about how the snake found its way into the bathroom; perhaps it took a wrong turn while exploring? While we may never know the full story, here’s hoping that the python’s future is a bit less eventful. After all, a quiet life is a happy life for both humans and snakes!

Final Thoughts

So, what’s the takeaway from this riveting tale? Life in Columbia can be full of surprises—even if some of them are a little more scaly than others. Let’s hope everyone involved is recovering quickly from the excitement, and maybe the next time someone hears a noise in the bathroom, they’ll check for just a little less than a python!
