Sponsor Our ArticlesColumbia, SC, is bracing for a winter weather event with snow expected to begin early next week, particularly on Tuesday afternoon. A strong weather alert warns of potential snow accumulation ranging from a half inch to 2 inches, with temperatures dropping significantly into the teens. Drivers are urged to exercise caution as conditions may become hazardous. Although a brief thaw is anticipated later in the week, winter remains fully in charge with possible additional snowfall on Thursday night. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and prepared for the upcoming chilly weather.
Columbia, SC, brace yourselves! A chilly embrace from Mother Nature is heading our way as the National Weather Service has put out a strong weather alert for the region. Snow is on the horizon, set to make its grand entrance early next week. So, get your mittens and snow boots ready – it looks like winter has finally decided to pay us a visit!
The snowy festivities are predicted to kick off on Tuesday afternoon, with snowflakes beginning to fall between 3-8 p.m.. How exciting is that? But hold onto your hats; the snowstorm may linger into the early hours of Wednesday morning, providing a delightful (yet potentially troublesome) winter wonderland.
In terms of temperatures, Columbia will be feeling the chill. Expect a significant drop, with some readings plummeting to the teens, especially in the mornings. Grab an extra layer and your favorite warm drink because with wind chill, it could feel closer to the single digits. Brr!
Now, let’s talk about the snow itself! It looks like there’s about a 65-85% chance of precipitation on Tuesday, and most of it is expected to fall as snow, thanks to those chilly temperatures. Snow accumulation could vary quite a bit, anywhere from a half inch to 2 inches in the Columbia area. However, if you live in the southern and eastern Midlands, you might just find yourself with a little extra surprise – the snow could pile a bit higher there!
Heads up to our friends near Chapin and Newberry; while the snow will be dancing around Columbia, you might see less accumulation. Make sure to keep an eye on the forecast; things can shift rapidly around here!
Driving conditions could turn a bit dicey as the snow blankets the roads. So, if you need to head out, take it slow and allow for extra travel time. After all, no one wants to slip and slide on the way to the grocery store! The high on Wednesday is expected to be around 34 degrees, but hold onto your blankets because overnight lows could dip dramatically to around 15 degrees. Make sure to keep those pipes warm, bring your pets indoors, and ensure your livestock have comfy spots and access to unfrozen water – it’s going to be a cold one!
If you’re finding it hard to bear the cold, there’s a slight thaw on the horizon for Friday, with daytime highs creeping into the 40s. But don’t get too comfortable just yet; nighttime temperatures will still drop to around 23 degrees, reminding us that winter is still very much in charge. Good news though – as the week continues, we can expect a warming trend, with temperatures possibly reaching 50 degrees by Saturday!
Keep your snow gear handy because there’s even a chance of additional snow moving in on Thursday night, marking possibly the third snowstorm we’ve seen in 2025. Snowfall isn’t something we see every day in the Midlands. After all, the last notable snow event was back in January 2022, and prior to that, we hadn’t seen any measurable snow since 2017. That’s some rare fluff!
We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed for some magical snowflakes, but in the meantime, it’s a good idea to stay updated on the forecasts as we get closer to the event. Weather patterns can change quickly, and it pays to be prepared.
So, Columbia, are you ready for what winter has in store? Stay warm, stay safe, and enjoy the snowy scenery that might greet us come Tuesday!
