Columbia, South Carolina, woke up on Saturday to an unsettling scene at a fast food restaurant that left three people injured. The incident occurred at the local Hardee’s, located at 5801 U.S. 321/Fairfield Road, just before 8 a.m. Officers arrived at the scene after receiving an emergency call about a physical altercation at the popular eatery, which is situated between North Main Street and Interstate 20’s Exit 70.
Upon arriving, police discovered that three individuals had sustained injuries, all of which were described as “non-life threatening” by authorities. Among the injured were two employees of Hardee’s and a customer who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. The police did report that one of the victims remains hospitalized, although further details about their condition are still unavailable.
The chaos is believed to have stemmed from a personal conflict involving a 42-year-old man named Ira Grissett, who reportedly came to the restaurant looking to confront a male employee. What exactly ignited this confrontation is still unclear, and authorities have not yet provided insights into how the other victims were drawn into the fray.
Following the incident, Grissett was charged with several serious offenses, including attempted murder and two counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. Additionally, he faces possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Grissett is currently being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, and so far, no bond has been set.
The police confirmed that Grissett is scheduled for a bond hearing soon, with his next court date set for December 13. It’s noteworthy that the knife used in the incident has been recovered by the authorities. They described the situation as an isolated incident, meaning there’s no ongoing threat to the community.
Many in the Columbia area are understandably shaken by these events. Fast food establishments like Hardee’s often serve as community hubs where people go for a quick meal or coffee. The thought that such violence could erupt in a place typically associated with comfort and casual dining is alarming. Residents are now left wondering how to ensure their safety during routine outings.
As police continue to investigate, the department is committed to providing accurate and timely updates for the community. In scenarios like this, details can be murky, and the situation can still evolve. Therefore, it’s essential for residents to stay informed and aware of the developing situation. The police have declared that this attack was not indicative of a broader trend or a rising crime wave in the area.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has pertinent information to come forward and assist in the investigation. In the meantime, the locals hope for a swift recovery for the victims involved and that their community can remain a safe place for all.
As news develops around this incident, it’s crucial to remain updated. The police department and community leaders are actively working together to address concerns and maintain public safety.
