Columbia’s Exciting Summer Plans Unveiled with an Array of Events

Columbia, South Carolina’s locally-owned weekly newspaper, Columbia Star, has come out with its much-anticipated events calendar for this summer. Filled to the brim with exciting festivals, sporting events, charity work, and art exhibitions, Columbia’s got a summer packed with fun activities for people of all age groups.

Art and Culture

Alexandra’s Art Studio, located at 111 Sparkleberry Crossing Road, is offering a variety of art classes aimed at adults and kids alike, with group sessions for those who enjoy painting or sketching in camaraderie. In another cultural initiative, the Columbia SC Visitors Center has joined hands with One Columbia for Arts and Culture to host artist pop-ups highlighting local talent. There is also an opportunity for art enthusiasts to witness an exhibition at Shandon United Methodist Church, showcasing the oil paintings by Ashley (Stone) Ozmint.

Festivals and Fundraisers

Columbia is going big on festivals this season with Historic Columbia announcing soul singer Sunshine Anderson headlining the entertainment lineup for the 46th annual Jubilee. They also have fundraisers lined up with Friends of the Irmo Branch Library hosting its annual Murder Mystery Dinner Theater. The event is a fun way to participate and contribute to a good cause.

City Initiatives and Scheduled Closures

Recently, the City of Columbia, city legislators, and Columbia Green held a press conference to announce an ambitious joint initiative. The plan is to plant 1,750 new shade trees over the next five years free of charge to property owners. In other news, city buildings and offices are scheduled to be closed on July 4 to observe Independence Day. But the garbage and trash collection will be continued as per the usual schedule, ensuring cleanliness and hygiene despite the holiday.

Patriotic Showcase

In a show of patriotism, ‘Salute From The Shore,’ an annual Independence Day event, is back for its 15th edition. The event promises a marvelous air show with a variety of planes, including F-16s and C-17s, painting the skies over South Carolina’s coastline.

Sports and Outdoors

The American Pickleball Tour (APT) returns to the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, promising an engaging sporting weekend. The Boys and Girls Club Jackson Teen Center will also organize a special event as a part of its Grind Out Program, featuring GG Jackson, a rising star of the Memphis Grizzlies.

Support and Services

Recognizing the need for communal support and learning, Columbia will host a series of gatherings including the ADD/ADHD Support Group of the Midlands and the Invitation to Change group, aiming to empower loved ones facing substance abuse.

While the coming months are set to be jam-packed with exciting events, Columbia ensures all engagement, entertainment, and educational needs are catered to with the vast range of offerings. From helping out in charitable events, enjoying music festivals, indulging in the arts, to sports tournaments and city initiatives, there’s something for everyone in Columbia this summer!
