Exciting December Events Bring Community Together in Columbia

Exciting Community Happenings in Columbia this December!

Columbia is buzzing with excitement this December as residents gear up for a variety of fun-filled events before the New Year rolls in. Whether you’re passionate about art, love adorable pups, or want to get into the holiday spirit, there’s something for everyone in our vibrant community!

Student-Powered Dog Grooming Event

First up, we have a heartwarming initiative from the talented students of W.J. Keenan High School! On Saturday, December 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., these budding groomers will host a special dog grooming event at the school located at 361 Pisgah Church Road. It’s a fantastic opportunity to get your furry friends pampered while supporting young learners in the animal science program. Mark your calendars—your pups will thank you!

Art for Everyone!

If art is more your scene, don’t miss out on offerings from Alexandra’s Art Studio at 111 Sparkleberry Crossing Road. They have an array of classes for both adults and kids, plus exciting art camp sessions. Interested in showing off your artistic flair? The Congaree Vista Guild is now accepting submissions for the 2025 Artista Vista Juried Exhibition, themed “Rooted.” The exhibition will take place from April 11–13, 2025. Head over to their website for all the submission details!

Kicking Off Unity in the Community

On the same day as the dog grooming event, the Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement is hosting a Kickoff Rally at Arden Elementary School from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.. It’s a wonderful opportunity to gather with friends, family, and neighbors to promote unity and positive interactions within the community. Bring your family and join in on the fun with games and activities for all ages!

Annual Columbia Christmas Pageant

Feel the magic of the season at the 37th Annual Columbia Christmas Pageant at First Baptist of Columbia this weekend! There are shows scheduled for December 14 at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., as well as a performance on December 15 at 3 p.m.. It’s a beautifully crafted production perfect for all ages, strengthening the community’s festive spirit.

A Parade of Lights and Celebration

And if that’s not enough to keep the holiday cheer going, the Greater CWC Chamber of Commerce is organizing a festive lineup this weekend with a double feature movie night on December 13 featuring “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” On December 14, catch the Christmas Parade kicking off at 10 a.m., followed by the Annual Holiday Parade of Lights later in the evening at 5:30 p.m.! Talk about a parade for the books!

Thank You, Kamala Event

For those wanting to celebrate positive impacts in politics, head over to Friendship Baptist Church on December 14 from 2-4 p.m. for the program “Thank you, Kamala.” This free event is an expression of gratitude featuring community speeches and activities that will uplift and inspire.

Get Ready for New Year Celebrations!

And as we approach the New Year, don’t miss out on Columbia’s Comedy Countdown at The Corley Mill House on December 31 at 10 p.m.. It promises to be a night filled with laughter as we bid farewell to 2024 and welcome in the new year with smiles and giggles. Who says you can’t have fun while waiting for the clock to strike midnight?

With all these wonderful events taking place, there’s never been a better time to be in Columbia. So grab your friends, family, and a sense of adventure, and dive into the seasonal festivities that bring joy to our community!
