Community Unites in Search for Missing Broadway Star Zelig Williams

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Community Joins Forces to Find Missing Broadway Star Zelig Williams

The tight-knit community of Columbia is deeply concerned as the search for Zelig Williams, a beloved Broadway star, continues. Family and friends last saw the 28-year-old performer on October 3. Renowned for his impressive talents and vibrant personality, Zelig is a cherished member of the local dance and theater scene, and his sudden disappearance has sent shockwaves through the community.

A Talented Performer with a Big Heart

Caroline Lewis-Jones, a dance teacher and close friend, recalls the first time she met Zelig when he was just an 11-year-old dance enthusiast. “He walked into my class at Southern Strutt Dance Studio, and I immediately knew how special he was. He would show up to all the dance classes, and I would say, ‘Zelle, you know this isn’t your class,’ and he would respond, ‘I know, but I want to take class anyway!'” Lewis-Jones fondly remembers. “He was just a kid who always wanted to do more.” His passion and dedication were evident even at such a young age.

Lewis-Jones describes Zelig as a hard-working, compassionate, and occasionally goofy individual. She proudly notes how Zelig has never forgotten his roots, consistently returning to South Carolina to mentor young dancers. “He wanted to teach as much as he could and worked at various studios like Strutt, PPA, and MJDA,” she said. “He wanted kids to understand what it takes to make it to this level.” His enthusiasm for teaching and nurturing the next generation has left a lasting impact on many.

From Auditions to Broadway

Former drama teacher Jeanette Arvay Beck reminisces about Zelig’s first audition. “He was his usual upbeat self, and when he walked out, I thought, ‘Wow, there’s so much talent just waiting to blossom,’ and it did!” she recalled. Zelig’s journey from local stages to the bright lights of Broadway was a testament to his exceptional talent and determination.

Even after his rise to fame, Zelig maintained his authenticity. Beck shared, “He still brought out the best in others, and that’s just his personality—a ray of sunshine.” Both friends emphasize that while time has passed, Zelig’s spirit remains unwavering, and the community’s love for him is palpable.

The Ongoing Search and Community Support

As days turn into weeks, the search for Zelig has intensified. Investigators have shared that he was last known to be in the area of Congaree National Park, with his car found abandoned in a parking lot near Wateree Passage of the Palmetto Trail. Family and friends are now rallying together, urging the community for support, awareness, and prayers in hopes of bringing him home.

“Whatever your form of prayer is, we all believe different things,” Lewis-Jones encourages. “Just keep hoping and believing he will come back to us. Keep your eyes and ears open.” This sense of community spirit is shining brightly as friends, family, and even strangers come together, hoping to find their cherished friend.

Upcoming Fundraising Event: Dance for Z

In a wonderful display of support, the Unbound Dance Company is hosting an event titled ‘Dance for Z’ on Sunday, October 20, from 5:15 to 7 p.m. This celebration will be held at The Southern Strutt in Irmo, located at 90 Ashbourne Rd. All proceeds and donations gathered during this event will go directly to Zelig’s family to support their search efforts.

If you have any information regarding Zelig’s whereabouts, you are encouraged to contact Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Rest assured, callers can remain anonymous and will be eligible for a reward if their tips lead to any breakthrough in the case.

As the community of Columbia continues to search for Zelig Williams, it remains a testament to the love and support that binds them together. Together, they hope that their efforts will lead to the safe return of their shining star.
