Born on February 23, 1950, in Lexington, South Carolina, Deborah R. Kyzer was an extraordinary woman whose life was characterized by her deep faith, her love for her family and friends, and her dedication to serving others. Sadly, on August 13, 2024, Deborah passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 74, surrounded by her loved ones. A memorial service will be held in her honor at St. James Lutheran Church in Red Bank on Sunday, August 18 at 1 pm, following a visitation at Barr-Price Funeral Home the previous day from 5-7 pm.
Deborah Gayle Roof Kyzer was a proud member of the Lexington High School class of 1968 and later graduated from Midlands Technical College. She built a career in the banking industry where she made enduring friendships, showing her ability to balance professional success with personal relationships.
More than her career, however, she was known for her radiant spirit and infectious laughter. She was a woman of unwavering faith and was actively involved in the St. James Lutheran Church, serving as the church treasurer and a handbell choir member.
Deborah had a particular fondness for dance. It is with a sense of joyful relief that we know her spirit is now free of the bonds of Parkinson’s disease, likely dancing jubilantly and joyfully in the heavens. An avid birder, she also loved observing the diverse avian life, her face always lighting up with delight when she sighted a new bird through her binoculars.
Deborah is survived by her husband of 53 years, Charles Derral “Dick” Kyzer, daughter Amanda Nicole “Nikki” Kyzer, son Kevin Charles Kyzer, and brother Michael Brent Roof (Lynn). She was preceded in death by her parents, Corene Corley Roof and Enoch Clyde Roof, and brother Gerald Mathias Roof (Sharon).
The family expresses their deepest gratitude to Interim Healthcare for the compassionate and loving care they provided to Deborah during her end-of-life journey. A special mention goes to Ms. Doris Horsely, Deborah’s caregiver, for her admirable dedication and service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Mission Endowment Fund at St. James Lutheran Church in memory of Deborah. This aligns with her lifelong commitment to philanthropy and will ensure her generosity continues to impact lives.
The obituary service will bring together family, friends, and loved ones to honor and celebrate Deborah’s remarkable life. It stands as a testament to a life well-lived, a life that touched so many others, and a life that will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
As we mourn the loss and celebrate the life of Deborah R. Kyzer, may we always remember her cheerful spirit, her warm smile, and her unwavering strength in facing the trials life threw her way. Hers was a life characterized by joy, faith, and love, a light that shone through her and onto all who knew her, leaving an indelible mark on our hearts that no force in the universe can erase.
A woman of incredible strength and resilience, Deborah R. Kyzer’s life was filled with love, faith, and service. Even as we bid her farewell, we reflect on the incredible legacy she leaves behind, and we honor her memory.
