Lexington Man Charged in Animal Cruelty Case after Five Dogs Found Abandoned without Food, Water for Two Weeks

Sad Tale of Neglect: Five Dogs Abandoned without Food, Water for Fortnight

Man Faces Charges for Animal Cruelty

A 40-year-old Lexington man faces charges after five dogs were discovered in dire conditions inside his home. Three of them had tragically succumbed to prolonged neglect

Robert John Jachim was apprehended on Tuesday, post discovery of the horrifying sight at his residence on Corley Street. The findings strongly suggested that the dogs had been disregarded at home for almost two weeks with no access to food or water, as per the local investigative authorities.

Some Pleasant News Amidst the Gloom

Four of these dogs were discovered by investigators imprisoned within wire crates, two unfortunately not among the living. The remains of another small dog were found in a bedroom. Two dogs, however, were fortunate to survive, albeit in a severely debilitated condition. They were immediately transferred to Pawmetto Lifeline for care.

Care and Recovery for Surviving Dogs

Currently, the two rescued dogs are receiving intensive care. As per Brittany Jones, the director of animal services, they’ve been provided with added dietary supplements due to their severe malnourishment. Their physical trauma was of such an extent that the dogs did not feel inclined to eat on the first day of their rescue.

The rescue shelter assisting local animal services currently has to aid the dogs in walking, which testifies to their physical distress. Also, they are now kept on a strict eating schedule. Pawmetto Lifeline is anticipated to provide long-term care for these traumatized dogs.

Necessary Legal Steps

Following the incident, Jachim faces five counts of animal ill-treatment. He has been incarcerated in the Lexington County Detention Center and was granted a $5,000 bond. The grim case has highlighted the pressing need for animal services to expand their team with more officers and investigators to safeguard the rights and welfare of animals.

Ensuring Animal Welfare

Animal Services currently has several officers and investigators who actively manage and respond to situations such as this one, proving their dedication to animal welfare. They are in search of more personnel who can help strengthen their ongoing battle against animal cruelty.

This distressing incident was investigated by their in-house team of cruelty investigators, showcasing the indispensable nature of their expertise and dedication in dealing with such horrifying cases and ensuring the welfare of animals.
