Hey there, Columbia! Are you ready to make a difference this holiday season? It’s time for the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Honor the Dream Food Drive, and it’s officially kicked off! Last week, the City of Columbia, along with Richland School District One and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Foundation, launched this wonderful initiative that aims to feed those in need right here in our community.
Why do we do this? Well, it’s all about honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his incredible legacy of service. His commitment to bettering the lives of others continues to inspire us all. This food drive, which started on November 11 and runs until December 9, is a fantastic way for everyone to come together and show some love to our neighbors. Every bit counts, and with the holiday season upon us, it’s the perfect time to give back!
If you’re wondering what to contribute, the food drive is asking for some specific items. You can help by donating:
If it fits in your pantry, it can fit in someone else’s as well! Your generous donations will go directly to the Harvest Hope Food Bank, which works tirelessly to provide food to families in need across our region.
Ready to donate? Here’s where you can drop off your items:
If you have any questions or need further information, don’t hesitate to reach out to the Columbia Parks and Recreation Department at 803-545-3100. They’re more than happy to help!
And for those of you curious about the weather while you’re out and about making those donations, expect a lovely day in Columbia on November 24. You’ll wake up to some clouds in the morning, but by the afternoon, it’s all about mainly sunny skies and a comfortable high of 68°F with light winds from the southwest. Perfect for getting outdoors and making a real impact while enjoying this beautiful day!
So, let’s rally together, Columbia! Dig deep into those pantries and let’s make this food drive the best one yet. Together, we can brighten the holidays for many families in our area. Happy donating!
