South Carolina Anticipates Cooler October Start with Spotty Showers and Low Tropical Threat

Autumn clouds and sunshine

Mainly Dry Start to October across South Carolina

COLUMBIA, SC – With the dawn of October, South Carolina residents can anticipate more clouds than sunshine, promising a considerable dip in the temperature chart compared to recent weeks.

Temperature Dynamics

Forecasters predict that the mercury will remain steady at low to mid 80s throughout the week and into the impending weekend – a pleasing cool-off for the state that recently experienced higher temperatures. Nights will be slightly warmer than average with temperatures predicted to hover in the mid 60s.

Expectation of Showers

Residents can expect some spotty showers over the course of the next few days, however, heavy rainfall is not forecasted for the week ahead. The next substantial rain is likely to occur early next week as a cold front advances across the state. This could pave the way for a pleasant cool down and a potential reduction in humidity levels by the middle of next week.

Tropical Update

While the state experiences a relative lull, multiple systems continue to move across the central Atlantic Ocean, including Tropical Storm Kirk. As of now, these systems do not pose a significant threat to the United States.

The National Hurricane Center continues to oversee potential tropical developments in the western Caribbean or southern Gulf of Mexico within the next seven days. Though the development of a named storm is not entirely out of the question, the chances of anything significant forming seems low and whatever forms are likely to remain well south of the Carolinas posing no local threat.
