Exciting New Training Classes in Lexington!

Lexington residents, get ready for some fantastic opportunities coming your way! The Lexington Police Department is kicking off the fourth quarter of their popular STOP THE BLEED and C.R.A.S.E. (Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events) training sessions. This is the third year these incredibly useful and free classes have been offered, and they just keep on growing in popularity!

It’s All About Community Safety

The purpose of these courses is simple yet vital: to equip you with the knowledge and skills to act confidently in emergency situations. Whether it’s learning how to stop severe bleeding or handling the chaos during an active shooter situation, this training is all about preparing our community to respond effectively and calmly.

Police Chief Terrence Green stated, “We have seen a tremendous interest from schools, churches, businesses, and community groups asking for this instruction. It’s important for everyone to feel prepared.” This emphasis on community involvement shows how dedicated the department is to keeping residents safe and informed.

What To Expect from the Courses

Each of the STOP THE BLEED classes lasts 2 hours and focuses on three quick actions that can literally save a life. Participants will receive hands-on guidance on using tourniquets and techniques for wound packing. If you ever find yourself in a situation where someone is bleeding from an injury, knowing what to do can make all the difference.

On the other hand, the C.R.A.S.E. sessions are also 2 hours long and are based on the Avoid, Deny, Defend strategy. This well-tested plan developed by ALERRT provides crucial strategies and guidance for surviving active shooter scenarios. This is an essential skill in today’s world, where such incidents can happen in any location.

Training Schedule

The upcoming training sessions will take place at the Lexington Police Department, located at 111 Maiden Lane. Classes will start at 6:00 p.m. and will last for about two hours. Here’s the schedule for the next few months:

  • STOP THE BLEED sessions: Tuesday, October 8 and Tuesday, November 12
  • C.R.A.S.E. classes: Thursday, October 10 and Thursday, November

These classes are completely free to attend, but keep in mind that seating is limited. If you’re 16 years of age or older, you’re welcome to join! It’s a great opportunity to learn some life-saving skills!

How to Register

If you’re interested in attending one of these classes, you’ll need to secure your spot as soon as possible. To register or for any questions, reach out to Officer Todd Zeigler at 803-359-6260 or shoot him an email at tzeigler@lexsc.gov. Why It Matters

In light of various community emergencies, understanding how to respond can empower you and those around you. Imagine being able to help someone in critical need or staying calm when chaos hits—it’s not just about skills; it’s about peace of mind. So come out, learn, and know that you’re taking steps to contribute positively to our beautiful Lexington community.
