Exciting Weekend Ahead in Columbia, S.C. Despite Hurricane Concerns
Hello, Columbia! As we approach the weekend, there’s an array of fantastic events lined up for everyone to enjoy from Thursday through Sunday, September 26-29. But we do have to mention that the aftermath of Hurricane Helene might give us a little bit of a wet surprise. As of Thursday afternoon, our trusty meteorologists are forecasting some rain, high winds, and maybe even a tornado or two, right as we gear up for all these activities. So, before you grab your family and head out, definitely keep an eye on the weather and remember to check in with the venues!

Tim Turner: Songs of Celebration Exhibit – Want to soak in some joy through art? Visit the CityArt Gallery from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Wednesday or 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday to Saturday. North Carolina artist Tim Turner’s large-scale canvases are sure to brighten your day!
Cirque du Soleil: OVO – Ready for a colorful adventure? This thrilling show at the Colonial Life Arena promises a peek into the vibrant life of insects, running at various times. You won’t want to miss the acrobatics!
Candlelight: Tribute to Queen – Craving some magnificent music? Join us at Junction 800 from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. for a glowing tribute to Queen. Imagine classic songs played by candlelight—how cool is that?
Silent Book Club at CMA – For fellow bookworms! From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Columbia Museum of Art, grab your favorite book, enjoy light refreshments, or explore the art galleries. Sounds like a perfect evening!
Gallery Opening Reception: Continental Divide – Middle of the evening events? Why not celebrate photography? Head to the Richland Library Main from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for some light refreshments and great conversations with photographers who documented their journey along the U.S.-Mexico border. The Firebird & The Phoenix – Take in a spectacular concert at the Koger Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m. featuring the USC Symphony Orchestra and guest conductor Jordan Brooks. The program includes compositions by the talented Fang Man and Igor Stravinsky.
Community Involvement and Family Fun: Don’t Miss Them!
Lemonade and Popcorn Fundraiser – From noon to 2 p.m. at the City of Columbia Municipal Complex, sip on refreshing pink lemonade and munch on popcorn while supporting efforts in the fight against breast cancer.
Fort Jackson’s Oktoberfest – Community vibes are strong here! Join the festivities at the 1917 Club on Friday from 4–9 p.m. for live music, games, and a jump into their Volksmarch. Registration starts at 4 p.m. and the fun kicks off at 5:30 p.m.!
Riverbanks ZOOfari – From 7 to 10 p.m., enjoy an exciting evening of cocktails, delicious food, and some conservation at the Riverbanks Zoo. It’s their 50th anniversary, and it promises to be a celebration!
Irmo Okra Strut – On Saturday, the festivities begin at 9 a.m. at Moore Park, celebrating 50 years with live music, a parade, and lots of family fun. Don’t miss the Okra Strut Parade at 9 a.m.!
Camden Fire Festival – Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., head to Camden City Arena for a parade of fire trucks, live demos, and fun activities for kids all geared around fire safety.
