The first crash happened around 9:19 p.m. near the 15-mile marker, close to the Percival Road exit. According to reports from the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a vehicle was traveling southbound when it veered off the right side of the interstate. In a tragic turn of events, the car overturned.
Sadly, the front seat passenger lost her life in the accident. The coroner identified her as 20-year-old Shayna Stukes from Gaston. Friends and family are expressing their disbelief and sorrow at this heartbreaking news. As the investigation continues, many in the area are left wondering how such a tragedy could occur.
The night took another tragic twist at 11:12 p.m. when another accident occurred on I-77 North, near the 12-mile marker, close to the Forest Drive exit. This collision involved a sedan and a motorcycle, both traveling northbound when disaster struck.
According to highway patrol officers, the motorcycle rider collided with the sedan, striking it in the right rear corner. This impact caused the motorcycle to overturn and go off the right side of the road. The driver of the motorcycle was identified as 37-year-old Robert Licata from Lugoff. Like the previous incident, this crash is also under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
This sad series of events has left the community in shock. Many are coming together to remember Shayna and Robert and to support their families during this incredibly difficult time. It’s a stark reminder that life can change in the blink of an eye, and it highlights the need for caution on our roadways.
Local residents are expressing their grief on social media, sharing heartfelt memories of Shayna and Robert. Friends describe Shayna as a kind and vibrant young woman who brought joy to those around her. Robert, too, is remembered for his adventurous spirit and contagious laughter.
