Lexington Community Mourns as Victims Identified in Fatal Motorcycle vs. Pedestrian Accident

In a somber revelation, the Lexington County Coroner’s Office has disclosed the tragic details of a devastating accident that occurred on Kyzer Road the night of Tuesday, August 20. The unfortunate incident involved a motorcycle and pedestrian that resulted in two fatalities. The victims have been identified as Kevin Scott Collins, 63, and James Leonard Elly III, 17, both residents of Lexington.

Unfortunate Turn of Events

According to the Coroner’s Office, Collins was just checking his mailbox on the 200 block of Kyzer Road, around 10 p.m., when the horrific incident unfolded. Elly, the young motorcyclist who tragically also lost his life, was traveling westbound when he struck Collins. In spite of wearing a helmet, Elly was pronounced dead at the scene alongside Collins. The severity of their injuries proving fatal which led to this extremely tragic event.

A Third Person Involved

In addition to the two identified victims, a passenger was on the motorcycle. Fortunately, the passenger survived, but was taken to a local hospital to treat minor injuries. It is expected they will make a full recovery, which amidst such a tragedy is a sliver of good news.

The Investigation Continues…

Authorities are still trying to reconstruct the exact circumstances that led to such a disastrous event. The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Lexington County Coroner’s Office are jointly investigating the incident. While preliminary information has been provided, the full story behind the accident is still under investigation.

Lexington Mourning This Tragic Loss

This unfortunate incident has left Lexington reeling, as it mourns the loss of one of its familiar faces and a young life cut far too short. The community sends their thoughts and prayers to both victims’ families during this devastating time. As the investigation continues, the memory of Collins and Elly continues to linger amongst those who knew and loved them, and even amongst those who did not. Their premature departure is a solemn reminder of the fragility and unpredictability of life.
