Continued Investigation into 2022 Shooting Incident

Within the larger context of county news, there have been serious developments in the realm of public safety. The longstanding investigation into a 2022 shooting incident on Edmund Highway continues, with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department in conjunction with the U.S. Marshals making significant progress.

In a breakthrough, two suspects, 25-year-old Chendric Brown and 26-year-old London Oliver were arrested. Brown has been charged with one count of murder and one count of conspiracy, while Oliver faces charges of one count of conspiracy and one count of accessory before the fact. Both individuals are currently being held at the Lexington County Detention Center with bond denied.

The search for 24-year-old Ziyon McKnight, implicated in the same case for charges of one count of murder and one count of conspiracy, remains ongoing.

Call for Men’s Health Awareness

Amid these developments, the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) is highlighting the importance of health awareness among men during this year’s National Men’s Health Week. Personal health remains a key concern, with a call for early screenings to help combat diseases such as diabetes and heart disease, which are prevalent in men.

“Men are at a higher risk than women for many deadly health conditions and die an average of nearly 6 years younger than women, so it’s incredibly important for men to be aware of their health risks and proactive in addressing them,” stated DHEC Director Dr. Edward Simmer.

The DHEC underscores the importance of taking proactive steps such as regular yearly check-ups, understanding family health histories, and getting screened for diseases such as colon and prostate cancer after reaching ages of 45 and 55 respectively. Moreover, learning to identify the signs of a heart attack and stroke can make a critical difference.
