Lexington is buzzing with anticipation as the town gears up for a fantastic celebration of fishing skill and fun! Across three thrilling days at Lake Murray, fishing fans of all ages are about to experience something special. Kicking off the festivities will be Youth Angling Day on September 26, hosted at Gibson Pond Park from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
This free event is open to children aged 4 to 18, and it welcomes participants of all abilities. It’s an excellent opportunity for kids to dive into the amazing world of fishing, regardless of whether they’re seasoned anglers or complete beginners. Attendees will have the chance to learn from the experts—some of the best athletes, coaches, and ambassadors from USAngling—who will share their valuable experience and knowledge.
The children will enjoy hands-on educational activities through the International Game Fish Association’s Passport to Fishing Program. They can look forward to a variety of engaging events, including:

The fun doesn’t stop there! Following the Youth Angling Day, the spotlight will shift to the waters of Lake Murray for three days filled with high-stakes competition from September 27 to 29. The Pan American/USAngling Challenge Cup Kayak Championship promises to be an exhilarating experience for attendees. Elite kayak anglers from across the globe, including teams from the USA, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Cuba, the Philippines, Venezuela, and more, will showcase their remarkable talent.
During the competition, Pan American nations will take part in the quest for the coveted 3rd Pan American Kayak Fishing Championship title, while other international participants will compete for the prestigious USAngling Challenge Cup. This event not only highlights the skill of various anglers but also fosters camaraderie and sportsmanship among diverse nations.
