Lexington is buzzing with anticipation as the town gears up for a fantastic celebration of fishing skill and fun! Across three thrilling days at Lake Murray, fishing fans of all ages are about to experience something special. Kicking off the festivities will be Youth Angling Day on September 26, hosted at Gibson Pond Park from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Join the Fun on Youth Angling Day!

This free event is open to children aged 4 to 18, and it welcomes participants of all abilities. It’s an excellent opportunity for kids to dive into the amazing world of fishing, regardless of whether they’re seasoned anglers or complete beginners. Attendees will have the chance to learn from the experts—some of the best athletes, coaches, and ambassadors from USAngling—who will share their valuable experience and knowledge.

The children will enjoy hands-on educational activities through the International Game Fish Association’s Passport to Fishing Program. They can look forward to a variety of engaging events, including:

  • Fishing instruction from seasoned professionals
  • Hands-on practice with basic fishing gear
  • Learning crucial knot-tying techniques
  • Fun casting games using spinning rods and reels
  • Fishing on the pond with expert guidance on handling, baiting, and releasing fish

Vickie Davis, the Senior VP of Funding and Events at the Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board, expressed her excitement saying, “We’re thrilled to bring Youth Angling Day to Gibson Pond Park. This is a fantastic opportunity for kids of all abilities to dive into the world of fishing, learn from the pros, and enjoy a day of fun and education.”

A Weekend of World-Class Competition
