Greenville Technical College has announced Larry Miller as its new president, effective July 1, 2025. Miller, an experienced educator and current vice president for learning and workforce development, aims to enhance student success and improve educational pathways for underserved populations. His focus will be on aligning college programs with local economic development strategies and fostering partnerships for community growth. Under his leadership, the college looks forward to new initiatives that will benefit its 11,000 students and the entire Greenville area.
Big things are buzzing in Greenville as the selection process for the new president of Greenville Technical College has come to a close! On March 14, 2025, it was announced that Larry Miller, an experienced educator and administrator, will be taking the helm starting on July 1, 2025. This exciting development comes as the beloved former president, Keith Miller, wraps up his impressive 17-year tenure. The college searched high and low, reviewing 61 applications before finally narrowing it down to four standout candidates.
At 51 years old, Larry Miller is not a newcomer to Greenville Technical College. In fact, he has been working his magic as the vice president for learning and workforce development right under the college’s roof. During his time in this role, he has made remarkable strides in improving college services and outcomes. One dazzling achievement includes a whopping 238% increase in credentials awarded in just one year!
Under his watchful eye, the college’s online programs have soared, even clinching the title of 21st in the nation by a well-known publication in 2024. That’s quite an accolade! Miller has also taken significant steps to collaborate with Greenville County Schools, which has earned Greenville Technical College the top spot in South Carolina for dual enrollment programs. Clearly, he means business when it comes to improving student opportunities!
Miller’s primary mission as president will be all about enhancing student success. His vision is centered around preparing students for high-demand job opportunities, thus driving economic mobility not only for them but for the entire Greenville community. He seeks to forge partnerships that will align college programs with local economic development strategies, ensuring the future workforce is equipped to meet community needs head-on.
Ray Lattimore, chair of the Greenville Technical College Area Commission, expressed unwavering confidence in Miller’s capability to both maintain and elevate the strong momentum the college has garnered over the years. With his extensive experience and track record of success, Lattimore believes Miller is the perfect fit to lead the college into a promising future.
Larry Miller’s academic resume is impressive, holding a doctorate in public administration from Syracuse University, alongside numerous publications on education finance and policy. His 25 years in academia have seen him wear many hats, including a former dean at Florida SouthWestern State College and a senior research fellow at the University of Washington. With such a wealth of experience, it’s no surprise that Miller is prepared to tackle the challenges ahead with gusto!
One key focus for Miller in his new role will be increasing enrollment amongst underserved populations. He aims to create educational pathways that are clearer and more accessible, ensuring that every aspiring student has a fair shot at success. To kick-start his presidency, he plans to engage in structured listening sessions during his first 90 days. This approach will help him identify priorities and carve out early successes that can spark momentum for his administration.
Greenville Technical College, one of the largest public community colleges in the state, currently serves around 11,000 students across its four campuses. With this fresh leadership, there’s an exciting future ahead for both students and the community. So, as we anticipate July 1, expect new initiatives, innovative programs, and positive change as Larry Miller steps into the role of president, ready to make an impact!
