Rich with promise, the much-awaited inaugural season of the United Soccer League Super League (USL) kicked off with Hannah Richardson, former star player for Kentucky Women’s Soccer from 2019 to 2022, signing up to play for the Lexington SC. This move marks her return to the city where she previously showcased her remarkable talent and honed her skills.
“I’m excited to be back in the city of Lexington,” said an elated Richardson, expressing her joy in a news release by Lexington SC. She further expressed hope for the future, stating, “From playing soccer at UK and graduating here, Lexington has always meant a lot to me. I feel blessed to be a part of this inaugural season and paving the way for young girls to be inspired to chase their dreams!”
During her tenure at the University of Kentucky, Richardson proved herself to be an exceptional player, amassing 22 goals and 14 assists while flourishing in 56 out of 62 total appearances. Hailing from Bartlett, Illinois, she concluded her collegiate career in 2022, earning her place as the lead of the Wildcats’ team with her career-high 9 assists, thereby ranking third in the Southeastern Conference.
Demonstrating her prowess in the sport, she secured eight-goal seasons twice while playing with the Wildcats, in addition to securing a spot in the SEC All-Freshmen Team during her initial year. Richardson achieved all these phenomenal accomplishments while simultaneously graduating from the University with a bachelor’s degree in communication, earning a spot in the SEC Academic Honor Roll four times consecutively.
Prior to her return to Lexington and the Bluegrass State, Richardson ventured into the international scene. She played for HB Koge, a premier club in Denmark, contributing to the team’s commendable third-place finish in Denmark’s Elitedivision. Back in the United States, she now looks forward to making her impactful presence felt once again in her home ground, working to inspire future women athletes to follow in her footsteps.
