Lexington, SC native Scott Cutting loses life after a tragic I-81 accident in early July


A catastrophic vehicular accident on the southbound Interstate 81 near Halfway, Maryland, took the life of 66-year-old Lexington, SC, resident Scott Cutting. His Ford Transit was struck by an Acura SUV that was changing lanes, leading to fatal injuries from which he later succumbed.

The Accident Details

The Maryland State Police received the crash report around 3:40 p.m. on Saturday, July 6. According to official information, the 2009 Acura MDX was heading southbound on I-81 when it switched lanes and struck the 2016 Ford Transit driven by Mr. Cutting. The impact pushed the van to the left, causing it to hit a concrete barrier wall and a support pier, as per the original preliminary investigation.

Medical Attention and Investigation

The Maryland State Police aviation promptly flew Cutting to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. A passenger in the van was also injured during the incident and was evacuated to the Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown. The injured passenger has since been discharged from the hospital.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Acura SUV that allegedly initiated the crash remained at the accident scene. Further forensic examination and law enforcement procedures are still ongoing. Maryland State Police spokesperson Ngan Ho confirmed that the investigation is in its active phase, and more information would be available in due course.
