The courtroom where serious charges are discussed.
Travis Lang, a 47-year-old Irmo resident, faces serious federal charges for allegedly threatening the life of former President Donald Trump. After making specific threats to harm Trump between February 17 and his arrest on March 6, he was denied bail and is currently in custody. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison. Lang has a history of making threats against other presidents and aspired to run for office in 2024. His detention hearing is scheduled for March 14.
In a story that’s shaking things up in the small town of Irmo, South Carolina, a local man has found himself in some hot water after the authorities hit him with serious charges. Travis Lang, a 47-year-old who once threw his hat in the ring as a Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential election, is facing an indictment from a federal grand jury for allegedly threatening the life of none other than President Donald Trump.
The wheels of justice began turning when Lang was arrested on March 6. This arrest came after reports surfaced that he made some alarming threats between February 17 and the day he was taken into custody. Authorities have stated that Lang made specific threats to kidnap, harm, and even kill the president. Not exactly the kind of social media headline anyone wants to read, right?
On March 7, Lang made his first court appearance and, unsurprisingly, pleaded not guilty. Unfortunately for him, the judge decided to deny him bond, meaning he’s now cooling his heels at the Lexington County Detention Center.
It’s important to note that if convicted, Lang could be looking at a maximum sentence of five years in prison. That’s a long time to think about the life choices that led him to this point! No pressure, right? A detention hearing is already on the calendar for March 14 at 11 a.m., and it’s sure to be a nail-biter as the case progresses.
Court records have painted a more vivid picture of Lang’s alleged threats. He reportedly didn’t mince his words, claiming he “would kill Donald Trump.” Not a very friendly sentiment! This marks not just a one-off incident either; Lang has made threats against other U.S. presidents too, including former President Joe Biden. It seems like he has a pattern of making these alarming proclamations.
Interestingly enough, Lang once attempted to enter the political arena himself. In 2023, he invested around $6,000 into his campaign account for the presidential race but didn’t go all the way when it came to actually paying to have his name on the ballot. Despite his sporadic investment in his political dreams, he didn’t manage to make it onto the roster in South Carolina. Guess that wasn’t the game plan after all!
Lang is not only involved in politics but is also rather vocal on his social media platforms, including TikTok and X (formerly Twitter). In one of his TikTok posts, he even expressed concerns about the current president, hoping Trump wouldn’t “fail” like previous presidents Obama and Biden. Ironically, the very thing he seems to criticize has now landed him in hot water.
It’s worth noting that he’s not new to the world of threats. Previous encounters with the U.S. Secret Service occurred after they paid him visits to warn him to cease making inappropriate threats. Unfortunately for him, it seems he didn’t take those warnings seriously.
This incident comes at a time when security for President Trump has been high, especially after he survived two assassination attempts last year. One involved a gunman at a campaign rally, while another occurred when a man aimed a rifle at his golf course in Florida. Talk about a tense few months for the former president!
As all eyes turn to the upcoming detention hearing, the community remains on edge. Will Travis Lang get out on bail, or will he have to face the music in jail? The situation is evolving, and we’ll be sure to keep you updated on every twist and turn as this story develops in Irmo.
