COLUMBIA, S.C. – Jeremiah Donati Appointed as New Director of Athletics for USC

The University of South Carolina (USC) has officially named Jeremiah Donati as its 31st Director of Athletics, a decision announced by President Michael Amiridis on Thursday. This key appointment comes after the recent departure of former Athletic Director Ray Tanner, who transitioned into a different role within the university.

Background of the Appointment

Donati, who previously led the TCU Horned Frogs’ athletics program as its Director of Intercollegiate Athletics since 2017, brings a wealth of experience and a passion for collegiate athletics to USC. He joined TCU in 2011 as Deputy Athletics Director before being promoted to oversee the entire athletics department. This background highlights his commitment to enhancing the overall experience for student-athletes, with a remarkable record of upgrading facilities funded by nearly $500 million in donations.

Goals for Gamecock Athletics

In his new role, Donati expressed excitement about joining USC, a school known for its vibrant athletic culture and dedicated fanbase. “I’m honored to join the University of South Carolina, a school with a rich history of athletic excellence and passionate fans,” he stated. He emphasized his focus on continuing the trajectory of success for Gamecock Athletics, aiming to ensure USC is a national leader in both competitive achievements and the welfare of its student-athletes. Donati said, “Our goal is to be a national leader in both competitive excellence and student-athlete experience,” highlighting his commitment to balancing championship pursuits with comprehensive support for athletes.

Significant Achievements at TCU

Donati’s tenure at TCU has been nothing short of remarkable. Under his leadership, the Horned Frogs excelled in multiple sports, becoming one of only five schools in the country to secure multiple NCAA Championships during the 2023-24 athletics season. The previous academic year marked a historic achievement for TCU as they became the first institution in the College Football Playoff era to reach the CFP, the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, and the College World Series all in the same year.

Significantly, during his first year, the TCU football team, led by head coach Sonny Dykes, made a powerful run at the College Football Playoff, defeating Michigan in the semifinals before facing Georgia in the national championship game.

Administration’s Support for Donati

President Amiridis welcomed Donati to the USC community, expressing confidence in his leadership capabilities. “Jeremiah’s accomplishments at TCU speak for themselves. His leadership will be invaluable as we continue to build on the successes of Gamecock Athletics and ensure that our student-athletes have the support and resources they need to compete at the highest level,” Amiridis said.

Looking Ahead

As Donati steps into this crucial role, he is poised to lead USC into a new era of athletic achievement. His experience at TCU, which includes overseeing significant facility renovations and upgrades, will likely serve as a model for advancing the infrastructure and competitive stature at USC.

In closing, the USC community anticipates a dynamic and proactive approach from Donati as he takes charge of the athletics program, aiming to foster an environment where student-athletes can thrive both in sport and academics.
