Columbia, S.C. is buzzing with excitement as the 46th annual Jubilee: Festival of Black History and Culture kicks off this Saturday, September 21st. From 11 am to 6 pm, the community is invited to head down to the Mann-Simons Site located at 1403 Richland Street for a day filled with fun, music, food, and celebration.
One of the most thrilling aspects of this year’s festival is its fantastic lineup of performers. The headliner for this year’s event is none other than R&B and soul sensation Sunshine Anderson. Originating from Charlotte, NC, Anderson first stole the spotlight with her debut album, Your Woman, which rocketed to No. 8 on Billboard’s Hot 200 and snagged the No. 2 spot on the Top R&B charts. Not only did her album go gold, but it also featured hit singles like Heard It All Before and Lunch or Dinner.
Following her success, Anderson has further solidified her status in the music scene by releasing two more studio albums that continue to showcase her captivating neo-soul style. As fans gather to hear her perform, they can expect nothing less than an electrifying show full of heartfelt melodies and rich storytelling.
But that’s not all! The festival will also host an array of incredibly talented artists such as Master Splinta, Nahi Gruv, TiffanyJ, and Black Nerd Mafia. Each of these performers brings their unique vibe, ensuring that there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Adding to the festivities will be Bhakti Larry Hough and the crowd-favorite DJ Kelly Kel, who will keep the energy high throughout the day.
Fashion lovers are in for a treat, as the festival will include a dazzling fashion show featuring the amazing work of Stoi’s Atelier clothing company. This segment of the event promises to be a visual feast, highlighting the creativity and talent of local designers while allowing festival-goers to fully immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Black culture.
The Jubilee Festival is not just about music and fashion. It’s a vibrant celebration of history and culture, emphasizing the importance of the African American community in the rich landscape of Columbia. It presents an opportunity for families to come together, enjoy delicious food from local vendors, and participate in various activities and workshops that honor Black heritage.
Whether you’re a local or visiting from out of town, the Jubilee is a wonderful occasion to engage with the community, learn more about its history, and celebrate the contributions that have shaped its identity. And of course, it’s a great chance to discover new music, enjoy incredible performances, and indulge in a colorful array of food and fashion.
With the weather forecast showing a lovely mix of sunshine and warmth—around 83 degrees—it promises to set the perfect backdrop for the celebrations. Remember to pack your sunscreen and drink plenty of water while you soak in the atmosphere.
So, mark your calendars for September 21st and make your way to Mann-Simons Site for the 46th Annual Jubilee: Festival of Black History and Culture. It’s sure to be a day filled with joy, inspiration, and cherished moments shared with family and friends!
