Cayce Police Department Introduces K-9 Nero to the Community at Steel Hands

Cayce, SC 02/22/2024 –

The Cayce Police Department recently unveiled its newest member of the K9 team, K9 Nero, at an event held at Steel Hands Brewing. This event marked the official introduction of K9 Nero and his handler, Corporal Hartley, to the community. The duo showcased their specialized skills acquired through training, which will further enhance law enforcement efforts in Cayce.

Funding Through Steel Paws Initiative

K9 Nero was procured using funds raised during the 2023 Steel Paws event. The success of this initiative has enabled various law enforcement agencies like the Cayce Police Department, Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, and Richland County Sheriff’s Department to expand their K9 programs. The collaborative effort involved Steel Hands Brewing, the City of Cayce Public Safety Foundation, Jim Hudson Automotive Group, as well as the Richland County and Lexington County Sheriff’s Departments.

Enhancing Safety and Security

The addition of K9 Nero to the Cayce Police Department is a significant step towards enhancing safety and security in the community. Nero and Corporal Hartley have undergone rigorous training to ensure they can effectively assist in various law enforcement operations, including search and rescue missions, drug detection, and apprehension of suspects.

Steel Paws Impact

The proceeds from the Steel Paws event have been instrumental in acquiring specialized equipment and providing essential training for K9 units across multiple jurisdictions. The initiative aims to bolster the capabilities of law enforcement agencies and strengthen their ability to serve and protect the community.
