And the fun kicks off with a fantastic free event just for the kids: Youth Angling Day!

Mark Your Calendars for Youth Angling Day!

On September 26, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, come on down to Gibson Pond Park in Lexington. This event is perfect for children aged 4-18, regardless of their fishing abilities. It’s all about getting the younger generation hooked (pun intended!) on fishing.

The Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board and USAngling are partnering to present this educational extravaganza. Kids will get the chance to dive into the world of fishing through hands-on instruction from some of the best in the business, including top-tier USAngling athletes and coaches.

What to Expect

So, what can the kids expect at this free event? Well, there will be a variety of activities to keep them engaged and excited! From essential fishing instructions to practical sessions on using basic fishing gear, and even learning knot-tying techniques, the day will be filled with meaningful experiences.

One of the most exciting features will be casting games using spinning rods and reels! Just imagine the laughter and cheers as the kids test their skills. Plus, they will have the unique opportunity to fish on the pond with the guidance of experts, learning how to hook, handle, bait, and release fish properly.

“We’re thrilled to bring Youth Angling Day to Gibson Pond Park. This is a fantastic opportunity for kids of all abilities to dive into the world of fishing, learn from the pros, and enjoy a day of fun and education,” said Vickie Davis, Senior VP of Funding and Events at CCLMC.

World-Class Competition Follows

And the excitement doesn’t stop there! Following Youth Angling Day, from September 27-29, the waters of Lake Murray will be home to the prestigious Pan American/USAngling Challenge Cup Kayak Championship. This is where elite kayak anglers from across the globe will converge to compete for the title!

Participants from countries like the USA, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, and even as far away as the Philippines and Venezuela will showcase their incredible skills. The best anglers will be battling for the title of the 3rd Pan American Kayak Fishing Championship, while others will strive for the USAngling Challenge Cup.

A Call to Action

So whether you’re a fishing aficionado or someone just looking to have a good time, this event is a 🐟 must-see! It’s a wonderful opportunity to support play, learn, and maybe even enjoy a relaxing day out on the water.
