Following backlash, Lexington County approves new road maintenance agreement
Lexington County has approved a new agreement that will cover road maintenance in the area’s municipalities. The revised agreement, approved at the Feb. 13 council meeting, would continue to provide municipalities with county road maintenance services that were provided, but include exceptions. If any unincorporated area is annexed into a municipality, any new development on that site must comply with Lexington County’s own regulatory standards. Otherwise, the county can decline to perform road maintenance in the new development, according to the new agreement.
Lexington County’s approval of the new road maintenance agreement marks a step towards addressing the concerns raised by the towns and cities in response to the initial cancellation. The county’s commitment to road maintenance services with the updated terms reflects a compromise to ensure that road conditions are maintained while accounting for new developments and regulatory standards.
