Both the driver and passenger of the Kia were taken by EMS to a local hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, the passenger succumbed to their injuries. The deceased has been identified as Lelar Mae Dunn, 69, of Batesburg, by Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.

The GMC Acadia contained two occupants at the time of the accident who, luckily, were not injured. The crash is still under investigation by the SCHP.

A Warning to Road Users

This tragic incident is a morbid reminder of the inherent dangers that come with using the roads. While the investigations are underway, the unfortunate event implores for patience, especially at intersections where different traffic directions meet.

Road users are advised to remain observant and to pay careful attention to direction indicators from other vehicles. Additionally, following speed limits, especially in potential hazardous or heavy traffic areas, could be life-saving.

Be Part of the Solution

The accident stands as a testament to the importance of safe and responsible driving. It becomes necessary to mitigate such incidents, contributing to a safer road environment, by practicing defensive driving techniques.

By remaining vigilant, respecting traffic rules and the right of others using the roads, try to do the necessary part to ensure personal safety and that of others. Let’s pledge not to contribute to fatal figures and avoid jeopardizing our lives and those of others.

In cases of emergencies and accidents, it is encouraged to reach out to local authorities and first responders to manage the situation efficiently. Being aware of our responsibilities on the road can ensure a higher degree of safety for everyone involved.
